Welcome to the Watcher’s Council, a blogging group consisting of some of the most incisive blogs in the ‘sphere, and the longest running group of its kind in existence. Every week, the members nominate two posts each, one written by themselves and one written by someone from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council. Then we vote on the best two posts, with the results appearing on Friday.
This week’s contest is dedicated to Mia Love, the child of Haitian immigrants, the mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, the next congresswoman to represent Utah’s 4th congressional district and someone who has an innate understanding of what America is all about and exactly why it’s worth saving.
And of course, To Mrs. Ann Romney, who has always been proud of her country.

Virginia is one week away from a Republican Primary contest featuring several important races. This article will focus on two of these races. The first, the US Senate race between former Governor and Senator George Allen, State Delegate Bob Marshall and two political newcomers Bishop E.W. Jackson and Jamie Radtke. The second race will look at [...]

One of the most unsettling bits of news out of Washington DC lately concerns House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and his support for Indiana Senator Dick Lugar. Normally, we wouldn’t get too concerned over Cantor or any Republican supporting a fellow Republican incumbent. It is understandable that the decision to support Lugar is not popular [...]

Next time someone says, Ron Paul has not won a state yet, show them this article from a local MN newspaper (The Pierce County Herald): Paul’s campaign swept all the delegate and alternate slots in Congressional District No. 2, which south metro suburbs and CD 4 which is St. Paul, Ramsey County and the east [...]

I like this resolution from the Denver County GOP on ICLEI and Agenda 21! It’s short, sweet and to the point. Here it is: RESOLUTION 5 – Opposing the United Nations Agenda 21 Whereas, The United Nations Agenda 21 promotes international directives and agendas and such as “smart growth” and “sustainable development” through the use [...]

I have been playing catch up on several fronts and have yet to find the time to put down a few thoughts on a gathering last week at the US Capitol put together by Virginia Congressman Robert Hurt. I have met Congressman Hurt once or twice before, but only briefly. And I believe the first [...]

By Karen Kwiatkowski Note: Karen Kwiatkowski is running for Congress against long time incumbent Bob Goodlatte. This is a primary challenge for the Republican nomination. Virginia Right! has endorsed Karen because we see Congressman Goodlatte has grown out of touch and has supported more government intrusions into our lives with bills like SOPA that would [...]

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (who by the way as a disclaimer I am supporting for Governor in 2013 and I have advised him of this fact!) has come out for sensible ballot access reform: “It now appears that the only two candidates that will be on Virginia’s ballot on March 6th: Governor Mitt Romney [...]

I’m no attorney but I do know how to find and read the laws of Virginia. Various reports have stated that the signatures turned in by Newt Gingrich included at least 2,000 that were invalidated because there was no address given with the signature. If this were a Virginia Statewide office, that would be correct. [...]

Newt Gingrich was eliminated from the possibility of having his name on the Virginia Republican Presidential Primary ballot for 2012. Virginia requires at least 10,000 signatures which must include 400 from each Congressional District. Mitt Romney and Ron Paul remain as the only candidates whose name will appear on the ballot in the Republican Presidential [...]

I am excited and thrilled that Ron Paul got enough signatures to be on the Virginia ballot on March 6. That is a personal tribute to the hard work of volunteers and the campaign to collect the 10,000 signatures (with 400 from each congressional district as part of that effort) needed to get on the [...]

Tablet Magazine has a good piece on our Congressman Eric Cantor. A week after the election some political chips are starting to fall, between the GOP and Tea Party movement, both here in Virginia and Nationally. So, time for some post election “analysis”. The first thing that caught my attention was the biggest upsets in Virginia the 9th congressional district. Fourteen term incumbent, Rick Boucher, was [...]

Well, before getting to the answer for that question, I probably need to tell you who Ciro Rodriguez is. Basically, he’s Pelosi’s lackey in southwest Texas. He’s a Democrat Congressman, hailing from Texas’ 23rd Congressional District (until Quico Canseco beats him in November, anyway). You might recall that about a month ago, he went nuts and slapped a table when a constituent challenged his lack of understanding of Obamacare, which he had voted for. It may be that that video is having more far reaching effects on his campaign than Ciro is letting on. His campaign web site seems to have gone belly up. Click on cirorodriguez.com and see…nothing. Well, other than a generic page that’ll eventually pop up with helpful instructions on how to build a web site in minutes! Que pasa, Ciro?

We all want to be sure our candidates “fit” the mold that we, as Conservatives, put in place. Much has been written on Dede Scozzafava, the NY-23 RINO that pretended to be a Republican. But is a litmus test a good idea to avoid this?
On the surface, it sounds good. But it should surprise no one that people will say anything to get elected, then forget the promises they made in the heat of the election. (President Obama ring a bell?)
