A new Gallup poll shows that the gap between people identifying themselves as Democrats and Republicans has evaporated since President Obama was elected and is now a virtual tie. In 2008, 53% of the country identified themselves as Democrats and only 39% as Republicans.

In a Gallup poll released April 23, 2010, Democrats now hold a 1% advantage at 46% to 45% – a statistical dead heat.

It is no secret. What passed yesterday was not Health Care Reform. Most of the real reform bits were taken out to placate various factions within the Democratic Party. What is left is an absolutely worthless piece of legislation that does nothing to reform the high cost of medical care, but it does allow Obama and Pelosi to claim they passed Health Care Reform.

Rasmussen Reports has an interesting take on their Party Affiliation survey. While their conclusion that membership in both parties is down, the decline for the Democrats has been rapid since 2008, indicating that many who became Democrats during the Bush presidency have now become unaffiliated again, with those identifying as Democrats shrinking to the lowest numbers since the poll began in January, 2004.

Bipartisanship in the true sense is an overlapping position on an issue or issues. If a bill is introduced that is broadly acceptable to most, it is a true bipartisan bill. If a number of aspects of a bill are strongly objected to by one party, like the Health “Reform” Bills in Washington, adding items that are equally objectionable to the other party just to pass the legislation is not bipartisan. It is simply a compromise. One where objectionable provisions by one party are balanced with equally objectionable provisions for the other party. Is there any way this can result in good legislation for the general public?

While Left Wing nut Howard Dean is still wrong in believing a Public Option is the only way to go to provide Health Care, he is absolutely correct in what he says about the House and Senate bills for Health Care Reform. Dean’s comments in this video echo those in a post from a few days ago on this blog. Dean points out that the current bills will do nothing to save people money, and will, in fact, cause Health Care expenses to rise and force people to go uninsured – the exact opposite intent of the original ideas.
