I (Sandy) have known Del. Chris Peace for sometime. In fact, even when I was not in his district, I was impressed with him very much. Delegate Peace has become a leader in the House of Delegates. He had a regular column in the Times-Dispatch. He is a movement conservative and generally votes right. He [...]

We have been talking about the need for an Appellate Defender in Virginia and I am told by deep background that we could sure use a co-sponsor in the House of Delegates. I want to encourage all my readers to ask their House of Delegates member to co-sponsor the Petersen Appellate Defender budget amendment in [...]

Virginia Lt. Governor Bill Bolling has done an analysis of the Constitutional Authority of the office of Lt. Governor as presiding officer of the Virginia Senate in the event of a tie. And I believe he is spot on with his read that the Constitution gives him the authority to vote in the event of [...]

Once upon a time, when Reagan was ending a most successful Presidency, there was a political activist who had the itch for running for office. This activist did not realize how sexy local government is and wanted to run for House of Delegates or state Senate. Elwood Earl “Sandy” Sanders, Jr., was an attorney in [...]

It seems the media is making hay with the lower than previous year’s attendance at last night’s Tax Day Rally put on by the Richmond TEA Party. Here are the facts. First, last night’s rally saw between 1,100 and 1,500 people attend the event. The attendance was off from the previous two years, that is [...]

The Virginia House of Delegates managed to come up with a bipartisan redistricting plan that saw a number of Democrats vote for the bill in the Republican controlled House. The Democrat controlled State Senate, on the other hand, managed to devise a plan so one sided and protectionist that it did not have a single [...]

Late last week it was revealed that Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli sent a letter to the state’s taxpayer funded colleges and universities informing them that, without General Assembly approval, they do not have the authority to issue non-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation. Apparently, the state’s public colleges and universities had issued such policies without the approval to do so.

I really misjudged Tom Shields in my earlier posts on the man. Not only is he taking money from Congressman Bobby Scott, SEIU/Acorn and others, he still refuses to abandon his support for Acorn. Even after the child prostitution tapes were shown. He is trying to raise money, calls Delegate O’Bannon names for pointing out Shield’s Acorn connection and now, O’Bannon’s signs are being damaged and stolen. And not just a few.

The Times Dispatch Corrects Democrat Tom Shield’s FALSE charges against Delegate O’Bannon: The Republican incumbent in a hotly contested House of Delegates race in Henrico County is rejecting charges by his challenger that he opposes emergency contraceptives for rape victims. “That my opponent continues to make false claims about my record is disappointing,” said Del. Michael Gage is the Republican Candidate for the 74th District House of Delegates seat that plans to retire Democrat Joe Morrissey. After attending a Town Hall meeting last month, it was clear that Michael Gage has a deep understanding of the issues and problems in the 74th District and has the knowledge and skills to address those problems legislatively. If you have not yet read the summary of the Town Hall meeting, you may read it here.

When the VEA endorses a Democrat, it’s like having a hot and humid day in Virginia in August. Not news.
When the VEA endorses a Republican, it is like snow in August in Virginia.
When the VEA endorses a Republican over an incumbent Democrat, well, there is nothing that compares with that. And the fact that the VEA also sent a check speaks volumes.

As most Eastern Shore families will tell you, our economy has been dealing with a serious economic downturn for quite some time now.
While my opponent laments the budget woes of Virginia, he reveals himself to be yet another out-of-touch politician who failed to adequately forecast realistic revenue projections.
Unfortunately he doesn’t see the current dire circumstances faced by a great many Eastern Shore families as an opportunity to champion the kind of limited government policies that create jobs and prosperity, nor does he dissociate himself from those in Richmond and Washington who continue to legislate our jobs and businesses out of existence.

RICHMOND – Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins today praised Governor Tim Kaine’s decision to agree with Ken Cuccinelli to call the Virginia General Assembly into a special session to fix a prosecutorial morass following the U.S. Supreme Court decision Melendez-Diaz v. Massachusetts. The ruling has caused chaos among Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorneys regarding the difficulty in having forensic scientists who test material evidence personally testify at trial. As a result, many criminal cases are having to be dismissed or are lost at trial.
