Last week, The Washington Post reported, “President Obama is prepared to veto legislation to block year-end tax hikes and spending cuts, collectively known as the ‘fiscal cliff,’ unless Republicans bow to his demand to raise tax rates for the wealthy, administration officials said. Freed from the political and economic constraints that have tied his hands in the past, [...]

If you are familiar with Georgia State politics, then you know the name Tom Murphy. Murphy served as Speaker of the House of Representatives in Georgia for 28 years, from 1974 to 2002. He was described often as the most powerful man in Georgia. His time as Speaker saw five governors come and go – [...]

Today, Franklin Graham added his voice to the protest over the potential execution of the Iranian Christian, Youssef Nadarkhani on the Billy Graham website: The international community is complicit in Iran’s outrage if our leaders remain silent. House Speaker Boehner was one of the first leaders here in the U.S. to speak out against the [...]

The Wall Street Journal reports today: “The prospects for President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan grew dimmer Monday as he unveiled the fine print of how it would be paid for—primarily through tax increases that Republicans said would destroy jobs, not create them. . . . Republicans in Congress . . . disputed [...]

First and foremost, the plan proposed by House Speaker John Boehner was a real stinker even before the CBO came out with their analysis showing Boehner’s numbers were wrong. Instead of the promised #1.2 Trillion (over 10 years) cuts, the CBO said just over $800 Billion (or $80 Billion a year). But either way, most [...]

President Obama knows. We all know. House Speaker John Boehner will cave. Oh, he will talk the talk and walk the walk right up to where he gives the other side everything they want. I have repeatedly predicted Boehner would cave, hopping I would be wrong. Today: Boehner caved. Only he wants us to believe [...]

I suppose the term “honest politician” is, indeed, an oxymoron. Last Friday, we learned of a deal to reduce the 2011 budget by $38.5 Billion. While hardly the $100 Billion Conservatives were looking for, indeed expecting, and less than the $61 Billion we were told was a “pro rated” number based on the large chunk [...]

The Path to Prosperity It is tempting to begin with an old cliche’ opening line like “It was the best of budgets, it was the worst of budgets,” but looking at the graphs to the left (click for a larger view), that would be an understatement. House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and [...]

That’s what the Dallas Morning News’ headline should say. Instead, for some reason they went with the more bland (though less accurate) headline: Pelosi pulled strings to let dying Dallas lawyer Baron try experimental cancer drug. Here’s the tale . Dallas’ top Democratic donors will cut big checks to share dinner later this month with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi . Most will be motivated by a desire to protect the party’s congressional majority. Lisa Blue will have an extra reason: to say thanks for Pelosi’s efforts when her husband, Fred Baron , was dying of bone marrow cancer. His only option was an experimental drug whose manufacturer refused to give permission to use it for Baron’s condition. “He was a big fan of hers, and now I am as well,” Blue said. … Somehow – Blue still isn’t sure how – Pelosi cajoled the FDA to find a legal justification that let Mayo administer the drug, even without Biogen’s consent. “Nancy figured out a way,” she said. Check out this kicker for fun. Blue has no illusion that a typical family could pull such strings. “There are so …
