The Independent is reporting today that UKIP leader Nigel Farage is in discussions with perhaps two Tory MPs about defecting to UKIP. Disillusioned Conservative MPs have secretly contacted the UK Independence Party to discuss possible defection, its leader claimed yesterday as he appealed to Tory Eurosceptics to jump ship. I would say that this is [...]

All the Presidential candidates have at least one. Even Stephen Colbert had one when he ran for “President of South Carolina” (perhaps he had his year wrong – SC seceded from the Union on December 17 and was not joined until January 10 by another Confederate state. That would make the Governor of South Carolina [...]

I have known Gilbert Harrison Berger (“Gil”) for some time and he is a fine upright attorney who practices in Orange and Culpeper Counties. He is a straight arrow who has integrity and honor. I was glad to hear he is running for Commonwealth’s Attorney in Orange County as an independent; he’ll make a great [...]

Here’s my email interview with my latest hero, Spartanburg (SC) County Council member, Roger Nutt. He is a fascinating elected official who was successful in getting ICLEI OUT of his county. (The City of Spartanburg is STILL an ICLEI member but that may change! I’ll keep you posted!) Here’s Roger Nutt: How did you get [...]

As we continue examining the American Health Care Plan advocated by Independent Green Party Candidate Floyd Bayne who is trying to unseat Republican Incumbent Eric Cantor, I must admit that the research and detail is impressive. Dr. Lanzalotti has obviously put in a great deal of work on this, and judging by his comments on [...]

We’re now hearing that the incumbent Senator from Alaska, who lost to Joe Miller in the Republican primary is now considering a write-in campaign. In order to be successful, it is vital that the voter spell her name exactly correctly, so as a service to the nation, DTN will follow the lead of Drew M. over at Ace of Spades and provide the proper spelling of her name. MERKOWSKEE Don’t forget to get it right on November 3rd.

It looks like Joe Miller’s lead against the incumbent Lisa Murkowski will hold in yet another, and arguably, the most surprising upset of 2010 so far. While there are an estimated 8,000 to 12,000 absentee ballots sent out the Murkowski campaign did not make any concerted effort to generate absentee votes and the outstanding ballots are not all Republican ballots. So how did this happen? The pollsters and analysts all had predicted an easy victory for the incumbent. Well as in any of these “perfect storm” scenarios, the reasons were multifaceted. This is 2010 and there is an anti-incumbent sentiment out there. Joe Miller was a relative unknown…

I am going to give you some straight dope. From the gut. It’s about November and what’s at stake. You may live in an area where you have to vote Democrat to have any say. There are still lots of areas like that all over Texas and all over the otherwise conservative South and up into Virginia. And because of that, you may as a natural conservative have a view of the Democrats locally or in your district that’s somewhat benign. Sure, Obama and Pelosi are awful, but my local guy, he ain’t so bad. That’s what you may tell yourself. But. If your legislative goals and priorities include a business-friendly economic environment, clean elections, educational choice, excellence in public education, fixing the financial problems at big state agencies…

The First Congressional District race is over. Incumbent Rob Whittman wins in a landslide over Catherine Crabill. With % of the precincts reporting, Whitman leads 88% to 12%. The Second Congressional District has 6 candidates running, and it looks like it is a 3 way race at this point with Scott Rigell holding the advantage. [...]

A Congressional candidate from the State of Washington is really shaking things up. Ernest Huber is tired of the political games being played in D.C. He is challenging incumbent Dave Reichert for the 8th Congressional District seat. He promises to hold President Obama accountable for his crimes in office:

It’s kind of a shocker for political groupies, news that a popular and not-in-any-way-endangered Democratic incumbent has decided to leave Congress.
Robert Wexler, a staunch liberal voice from Boca Raton, railed against Republicans who impeached President Clinton and fought for a paper-verification of all ballots after Florida’s flawed (remember hanging chads?) election in 2000. During last year’s election, he was an early and avid supporter of Barack Obama despite strong support for Hillary Clinton in his district. Trying to deflect talk in January that he might be rewarded with an appointment in the new administration, Wexler said, “I have a dream job, a job I love.

The Times Dispatch Corrects Democrat Tom Shield’s FALSE charges against Delegate O’Bannon: The Republican incumbent in a hotly contested House of Delegates race in Henrico County is rejecting charges by his challenger that he opposes emergency contraceptives for rape victims. “That my opponent continues to make false claims about my record is disappointing,” said Del.
