Politicians often quote from the Constitution “ to provide for the … general Welfare” as justification for welfare spending. However, that clause gives the reason for collecting taxes – to protect the well being (Welfare) of everyone in the populace (general) – to protect not subsidize. The Constitution enumerates the exact ways that tax money [...]

The vote is today and we should have results early this evening on the Eastleigh by-election, formerly held by the LibDems. The Evening Standard has this headline: Eastleigh voters ‘less likely to run from Ukip canvassers’ And some voters interviewed say UKIP could pull off the surprise upset victory: Voters in Eastleigh today admitted the [...]

I was thrilled at Tour de France time when Lance Armstrong was winning all those races. it was great, he was an American dominating a European sport, it was almost like a superhero – the mountain stages were Armstrong’s specialty – and we just knew he’d win and usually in overwhelming fashion. And the best [...]

Woo Hoo! But I doubt Harry Reid will even consider being responsible with America’s money. From the Washington Times: In a move that serves as a capstone to Rep. Ron Paul’s colorful career, the House on Wednesday approved a bill that would let Congress’s chief investigators conduct a full audit of the Federal Reserve’s shrouded decision-making process. The [...]

H/T D. Carr Note: I can’t vouch that these conversations actually took place, but the truth that they speak is undiminished. It would be a really great idea if we could get an idea of what people thought and various leanings and the feelings of various groups of citizens. And it would also be wonderful if we had a way to tell if politicians were lying, being truthful or spinning a “fact” to make it seem [...]

You hear the left whine every day. “People have the right to know who is giving money to political PAC’s”. But when does this supposed “right to know” trump the donor’s right to privacy? That’s actually a pretty simple question to answer. If the impetus behind the disclosure of the names and addresses of donors would [...]

Like everyone else on the right, I detest this ruling and truly hoped that it had gone the other way. But in the back of my mind, when the government made the argument that the mandate was a tax, I thought that was something worth worrying about. Of course, the argument during the legislative process [...]

‘It’s disappointing and, I can assure you, highly frustrating to see what happens here in Washington: More spending and debt and kicking tough decisions down the road… Despite every warning sign imaginable, we have no solutions from this Administration or Democratic leadership in the Senate. The President punts on almost every tough decision.’ [...]

Time has what is yet another funeral announcement for the euro: Investors aren’t convinced Europe’s politicians have the will, ability or political clout to push through such excruciating fiscal adjustments, at least not in any reasonable period of time. Research firm Capital Economics figures that even with reform, Italy will still need two decades to [...]

Same Failed Approach, New Spin President Obama’s speech proves one fact: He doesn’t understand how to get government out of the way of job creators. President Obama knows. We all know. House Speaker John Boehner will cave. Oh, he will talk the talk and walk the walk right up to where he gives the other side everything they want. I think I just found where a little chunk of the Stimulus money went. I tallied up the campaign funds of the seats that the Obamacare Gang of 219 are trying to defend versus their opponents. Democrats: $238,122,981 Republicans: $72,562,610 That’s a more than 3 to 1 advantage. Now where would Democrats get a quarter of a billion dollars for these 219 races? Money comes from Unions to politicians, and politicians give our tax dollars to Unions. Of course, they’re too clever than to have a smoking quid pro quo, and they are all very devious and slippery, making sure these deals are impossible to trace, but that number is staggering. That’s over $1,000,000 per seat, 12 of which are unopposed and some that might as well be. Thanks for getting the big money out of politics, Senators McCain and Feingold.
