BUTLER JOINING ATLANTIC-10 in 2013-14 Season! Heard It HERE First!

As speculated right here at Virginia Right, Butler Bulldogs are joining the Atlantic 10:

Butler will officially join the Atlantic 10 for the 2013-14 season on Wednesday, a source with direct knowledge of the negotiation process told ESPN.com on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs will leave the Horizon League in all sports and join the A-10 after it formally seeks admission to the league. The A-10 will then accept the Bulldogs’ application to make it official.

I think the Bulldogs will do well.  Stevens is a coaches’ coach, he gets super results from his recruits and recent recruits are reputed to be higher quality.

Brad Stevens did some good work with his three-man recruiting class, getting one of the state’s most prolific scorers in Kellen Dunham from Pendleton Heights. Dunham rates as the No. 78 player nationally according to ESPN, higher than any of Purdue’s for signees. He should fit well into Butler’s system as a pure jump shooter who can also use his 6’5″ size to get to the basket.

Butler should be in Richmond every other year and if VCU joins the A-10, maybe every year!  I plan to be there!  Go Bulldogs!

NATIONAL DAY of PRAYER at HISTORIC POLEGREEN CHURCH on TV 6 NEWS!

Mark Holmberg of TV 6 news in Richmond (WTVR) did a nice video report on the National Day of Prayer:

HANOVER, Va. (WTVR) The National Day of Prayer was celebrated, again, at the historic Polegreen Presbyterian Church site in Hanover County, considered the cradle of religious freedom and civil liberty.

It was here that religious rebels fomented a bloodless revolution against the Anglican Church, which was the controlling religion of the Brits.

Here‘s the video!  I am especially impressed with the conclusion of this video.

I can report (I was there and had the honor of leading in the Pledge and you can bet it was NOT a pledge to the Earth!) that it was a wonderful Christ-centered service.

For more on how to know Jesus as Savior and Lord, go here!

RON PAUL Comes to the CITY of BROTHERLY LOVE April 22! Should We Have a GROUP From RICHMOND?

I have confirmed from this source that Dr. Ron Paul will speak in Philadelphia on Sunday, April 22 at the Philadelphia Phreedom Rally starting at 1PM.

There will be live music, including a new singer I just discovered:  Tatiana Moroz.  She has a powerful voice for liberty!

Also speakers cited on the website will be Michael Scheuer, the former head of the bin Laden unit of the CIA, who has a blog in favor of non-intervention and a board member of Students for Liberty, James Padilioni, Jr. (who is attending graduate school at William & Mary this fall!  Sounds like a great speaker for your next Tea Party event – if he has time!)

I would like to suggest – let’s get a car caravan from Richmond to go up to Philly for the day and hear the Doctor of Liberty and these other great speakers and singers!

New Logo and Masthead Design for Virginia Right!

We moved to a new Logo and Masthead at the top of Virginia Right! and retired the old one. The main reason was that we will be doing a booth at several events this year and we needed a banner. The old Logo was not high enough definition for a large 10′ X 3′ banner, so I punched up the color and used some photos I had taken and a stock Bald Eagle to create a high def file to use for a variety of things.

The first event we will be doing will be at the Richmond TEA Party event “Celebrate Liberty” on April 14, 2012 at the Chesterfield Fairgrounds from Noon to 8 PM.  Check it out here.

And as a very special offer, mention Virginia Right! at the gate and ADMISSION IS ABSOLUTELY FREE!

Ok. It is free anyway if you mention us or not! How cool is that? The Richmond TEA Party rocks!

Live music and fun for the entire family.

And here is a little tease we will be talking about more between now and the “Celebrate Liberty” event. Virginia Right! will be unveiling a new feature that will be of interest to any TEA Party person that is not happy with the way things are going. And you will be a part of this!

Hope you like the new look. And please consider dropping by and saying hello. As soon as we get the details we will let you know where to find us!

MIGHT BUTLER Come to RICHMOND? WHAT Happens to the HORIZON LEAGUE? BEST for the BULLDOGS in The

No, Butler University is not moving to the River City.  But this report in the Indianapolis Star (and this one in our own Times-Dispatch) indicates that there is serious talks for Butler Bulldogs to replace Temple in the Atlantic 10:

ESPN.com, without identifying sources, reported Monday that Butler has expressed interest in replacing Temple in the Atlantic 10.

An official spokesman for the A-10 said the conference has not been contacted by Butler. Nothing appears imminent. On the other hand, in the ongoing conference realignment, anything is feasible.

The A-10 is clearly a more powerful conference than the Horizon (I an a proud alum of Horizon member Wright State) sending four teams to the NCAAs this year.  Butler would get more national attention (A-10 has a team in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Washington DC, Charlotte and Richmond) and more TV time.  But they lose some exposure in Milwaukee and Chicago, as the Indy Star’s report indicates.  I think Butler will move to the Atlantic-10 since they do not have football.  (Butler has football but it is Division II)

I look forward to seeing Butler every other year here in the River City!  Butler may well move to the basketball based Atlantic-10.

The Horizon League will still prosper but ought to have a new school in the Midwest.  Maybe Evansville or Indiana State or a worthy Division II school moving up to the big leagues!

Finally, Butler is in the CBI tournament and will play Delaware in the first round:

The Bulldogs will host Delaware at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Wednesday, March 14, at 8 p.m. (ET) in the 2012 College Basketball Invitational presented by Zebra Pen.

GO BULLDOGS GO!  Come to Richmond!

Draft Rob Schilling to Replace Doc Thompson on WRVA Radio

Doc Thompson has been a rock solid voice on the radio that has entertained and informed us on WRVA-1140 AM for a long time. Doc became a fixture in the Richmond afternoon by asking the tough questions and daring to give voice to the truth. He stepped on toes and earned his place in Richmond’s history and hearts with his work. We all miss him.

As far as I know, there has been no decision made at WRVA to succeed Doc. And I won’t say replace.

Now I have heard a number friends speculate on possible successors. A lot of them are interesting possibilities.

But there is one that came to mind, for me anyway, that could step in and not miss a beat.

WINA – 1070 in Charlottesville has a true Conservative gem from Noon until 2 PM weekdays.

I am presently at CPAC 2012 in Washington DC and ran into Rob Schilling on “Radio Row” in the main exhibition hall. We chatted a while and I thought this guy could really make things happen in Richmond. If you are not familiar with Rob’s work or have not heard his show, there are a number of Podcasts here.  Listen to a couple and see what I mean.

Now I am not sure Rob would entertain the idea of doing radio in Richmond, and I am positive the listeners in Charlottesville would not easily part with Rob, but it is something that I think the management at WRVA would be remiss in not taking a hard look to our west.

Rob is a talented Conservative and would draw a great audience immediately.

ANOTHER TEA PARTY GOAL in the COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA! ICLEI OUT of VIRGINIA!

Here’s the NAUGHTY list courtesy of ICLEI USA:

Virginia

Now, James City County and Abingdon have already said NO to ICLEI.  That makes 5 communities out of 18 OUT!  Nearly ONE-THIRD!

I encourage the Tea Party and liberty/sovereignty activists in these areas to start/continue the fight.  ICLEI is unconstitutional, has a foreign policy, and has political goals.  Probably Roanoke County is next, and I would not count out Loudoun County, Dumfries, Staunton and Blacksburg.  Please keep me informed!  Let’s get ICLEI OUT of VIRGINIA!

George Allen for U.S. Senate Campaign Announces 4th Quarter Fundraising Numbers

Richmond, VA – Today, the George Allen for U.S. Senate campaign announced a strong fundraising quarter raising $1,062,132 in the last 3 months.  The end of the year report will show that the Allen campaign raised over $4.5 M in 2011 and will start 2012 with $2,037,405 cash-on-hand.

“Susan and I are greatly appreciative of the encouragement and support we have seen from people in every region of Virginia.  The mission of our campaign is to bring Virginia’s voices and values to the U.S. Senate,” said George Allen.  “The continued generosity of our dedicated grassroots team of supporters has put us in strong standing as we move forward to the November 2012 elections.  I truly believe the 2012 election is our generation’s ‘rendezvous with destiny’ and Virginians are energized and ready to bring change to Washington.  Together, we will continue to fight for the positive, pro-growth solutions that will create jobs, unleash our energy resources, and reinvigorate America’s entrepreneurial spirit.”

VerizonWireless 3G and 4G Data Networks Down … AGAIN!

Update 8:08 AM: This is definitely a nationwide outage. I have seen reports from coast to coast online. Some areas are reporting that 3G has come back up – Washington DC and some smaller areas. Nothing yet in New York, and I have no 3G or 4G in the Richmond area.

Are you looking for a reliable wireless service for that special someone for Christmas? Or perhaps you plan to treat yourself to one of the heavily advertised phones that take advantage of the VerizonWireless “Super fast” LTE Data network. The new Droid Bionics are pretty speedy.

When the VerizonWireless Network is actually up and running.

I have been with the carrier for a number of years because their coverage and reliability is second to none.

Make that was second to none.

This morning, for at least the 4th time this month  I have awakened to find I have no emails on my Droid. Believe me, I should have numerous emails.

An occasional outage is one thing, but these are becoming as frequent as Republican Debates on TV.

I can honestly say that I have never given serious consideration to changing to another carrier. Until now. VerizonWireless is not the cheapest guy on the block, by a long shot. But I have been willing to trade a bit more money for the outstanding service that they used to have.

I will be looking around today for another company. This is beyond normal and expected downtime. They have crossed the line into the unreliable category.

Anyone happy with their services from other carriers?

Video: TEA Party + Occupy Richmond = Cowardly Mayor

Meet Richmond’s Virginia’s Mayor Dwight Jones.

After forcing the Richmond TEA Party to jump through hoops and pay through the nose to exercise their right to free speech, the mayor then decided that his ideology and youth spent in various protest endeavors was closely aligned with the Occupy Richmond group that was given permission and upon whom the mayor has spent at least $7,000 facilitating their stay in Richmond’s Kanawha Plaza, downtown.

Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out so well for Jones and he rudely moved in with helicopters and police in the middle of the night to roust the Occupiers from their sleep and toss them out of the park – after nearly 3 weeks of helping them.

The TEA Party has taken great offense to the unequal treatment of the two groups and has asked the city to return the nearly $10,000 that they were required to pay for “permission” to speak freely. A privilege Jones was willing to extend to the Occupy Richmond group at taxpayer’s expense.

After their eviction, the Occupy group presented the mayor with a request for permission to camp. They included a deadline of 5:00 PM yesterday, November 14, 2011 and signed up to address the mayor and City Council at the Council Meeting that same evening.

The TEA Party also signed up to speak to the Council and the Mayor at the same meeting to address the request for a refund.

Everyone was interested in how the mayor would react. However, after failing to respond to the Occupy request for camping permission, and failing to respond to the TEA Party request for a refund, the mayor, in full cowardice, walked out of the Council Chambers just as the time for citizen comments arrived. Jones rudely and without comment simply got up and walked away.

A fine example of leadership that was.

The video below and the photos taken (click the picture to view the slide show) document the evening’s events.

Click for Slide Show

Click the Photo or this link to see a photo essay of the Council meeting and the audience.

The video below was taken during the meeting. The first hour was filled with awards being given or received by the City, and in some cases, to the city. It seems that the City of Richmond has reached the Gold level in the UN Agenda 21 scheme to deprive property owners of their right to own land. The Richmond City Council is collectively unable to read the information that is available about the true sinister nature of Agenda 21, or they know and simply agree with it.

Either way, the city gets the government they deserve.

The next 90 minutes were filled with bloviation and pontificating about the new city jail.

Honestly, it was like a hot stick in the eye listening to this collection of underachievers bicker back and forth, completely oblivious to reality. It is sad, really. Richmond used to be a great city with a decent and effective government. That is no longer the case. Truth be told, Councilwoman Reva Trammell seemed the only one who actually cared about what was happening in the city.

Oddly enough, in the 90 minutes wasted on the jail discussion, not one member offered any ideas to prevent crime in the first place. They were all too willing to accept the rising incarceration rate as a fact of life.

I have spared you the tediousness of the first nearly three hours of drivel that preceded the actual important business concerning the Occupy group and the TEA Party.

I must apologize for the jerkiness of the video. I was not sure I would be allowed to take in the cameras, let alone a tripod, so I elected to leave the tripod at home.

(Note: As of 11:20 PM on Tuesday, November 15, this video was still processing. If you are not able to view it, please check back later. Hopefully it will complete the processing phase on YouTube in a bit. It is a HD video, so they take some time!)

Interested in CURLING in Richmond? Come Out for League Curling November 19 at the ICEZONE in Chesterfield!

Curling, the wonderful Olympic sport sweeping (pun intended) the South and the USA in the last few years, has come to Richmond!  League curling is in session right now:  $20 per evening gets you two hours or so of curling as a team member in a REAL game.  (League play is probably best for those who have curled before BUT we’d enjoy new people, too.  It starts at 830 pm after the last hockey game at the IceZone on Johnston Willis Road in Midlothian.  There are several other Saturdays available as well.)

I went out as a new curler and brought my son, Rhett.  He loved it!  Actually heaved a regulation curling rock weighing 42 pounds into play in a regulation game (at least 100 ft or so)!  I also learned a lot, too.  I plan to be there (first to preside over a board meeting) to curl again and maybe bring Rhett.  So feel free to come out especially if you have curled before.

Virginia Businessman, Floyd Mays, Provides Answer to “Occupy Richmond”.

Floyd Mays, a local businessman and a Henrico Resident has released a Youtude video in response to the Occupy Richmond and Occupy Wall Street:

He makes an excellent point, “We don’t have to occupy Richmond, but we do have to get involved”.

History, Truth and a Point by Point Look at Occupy Wall Street’s ‘the 99 Percent Declaration’ (Part 1)

Occupy Richmond - 2011

Part I

Preface:

Apparently, some Virginia Right! readers on the right are confused by the video and writeup of my visit to Kanawha Plaza and my characterization of what I actually found to be true. The article was intended to be true investigative journalism. As such, I reported exactly what I found and attempted to write the story based entirely on my observations, checking my bias at the door. Looking over the comments posted by those who are participating in the event, it seems that I did just that. None have written that they went down to Kanawha Plaza, looked for themselves and disagree with my assessment. And I can state as fact that should anyone wish to go down and look around, you would be welcomed as I was.

I have printed many lines dealing with the lies and unfair characterizations of TEA Party events and I am keenly aware that you cannot trust the mainstream media to accurately report on the TEA Party. And so too, it seems, with the Occupy Richmond gathering. And I am well aware of what has been reported about the OWS events in other cities. I am not speaking to the behavior, conditions or events in those cities. I have no first hand knowledge of them. My report and comments concern ONLY the Occupy Richmond group. Not all TEA Party groups are the same, and it seems that the same can be said of these occupy groups.

As I stated in the article, I traveled down there expecting to document all of my preconceived notions of filth and civil disobedience run amok. Instead, I uncovered a story of a Richmond Mayor – Dwight C. Jones – who is looking the other way. Not because he is sympathetic to protests, because he was anything but sympathetic to the Richmond TEA Party, rather, because he is ideologically aligned with the leftist, hardcore agenda of the Progressive Movement that pretends to be the 99% of America.

You know, the ones truly behind the Occupy Wall Street movement’s The 99% Declaration.

I didn’t set out to write a two part series on the Occupy Wall Street movement. But as I began putting the story together, I thought a bit of history from my personal perspective might be helpful. Not to understand me, for I really don’t care about that. More to help the reader see the correlation between this group today and the events of the past protest movements.

As I mentioned in the video, I grew up in the ’60′s and was involved in a lot of things in that era. Truth be told, it was probably my involvement with some of the protests that eventually convinced me that Conservatism was the right path for this country. I had long hair, played in several Rock bands, hung out at Monroe Park and attended Virginia Commonwealth University, which many of us dubbed Viet Cong University. I was a regular at the Generator which became the Ram’s Den. I occasionally hung out at Hubaba’s, but the bikers could get a bit territorial. I attended several anti-war demonstrations, believed that Richard Nixon was the anti-Christ and that the Establishment was to be loathed and hated and never trusted. The man was evil incarnate.

But mostly, I went to these places and events to party, meet chicks and listen to the music. And I was one of the 99% who were there for the same thing. It was the 1% who were there with a serious political agenda. Most of us neither cared nor shared these beliefs. We were just looking for something to do.

So, the Occupy movement is nothing new. My generation occupied a number of building with sit-ins. Probably the most infamous being the Kent State incident. We occupied a farm in upstate New York for a while (but I missed that one!).

We didn’t like the way things were going. The War, the “hassles” and an entire generation rebelling against the status quo.

Oh, yea. And right before I started going to VCU in the early 70′s, I was planning to go to Theology School and become a preacher or Missionary.

So I do have some qualifications and experience with liberal indoctrination (VCU) and protests. The “Occupy” movement is nothing new to me. Been there, done that.

And we have something to show for it! All our hard work and protests, sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears changed the course of the Nation. Tricky Dickie (Nixon for the uninitiated) resigned in disgrace. A lackluster Gerald Ford took his place and finished the rest of Nixon’s term and finally, we had our chance to really make a difference at the ballot box! We were going to change the world. No more of these lame-ass right wing dictators like Nixon.

It was our turn!

Our answer was the epic failure Jimmy Carter. He managed to bungle everything he touched. By 1980, Nixon was not quite the monster we thought he was. Though we blamed him for Vietnam, we began to realize that it was not a war he started. To use a more modern analogy, he inherited it. In retrospect, Nixon tried to win the war and come home. But it was us – and our anti-war protests – that forced him to stand down and refrain from bombing Hanoi. People like Jane Fonda and John Kerry managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.

What happened, in reality, is that our anti-establishment movement, the “original” occupy movement, was co-opted by people with a political agenda. Their efforts were directed not at true social change and reform of government, but at a way to seize power. The “make love – not war” movement became the vehicle which Progressives and Socialists would ride to victory. 99% of us were young, naive, impressionable and easy targets for those with an agenda.

Of course, our efforts gave rise to a memorable quote in the 1981 movie “Stripes” staring Bill Murray as John Winger who said “But we’re American soldiers! We’ve been kicking ass for 200 years! We’re 10 and 1!

So, fast forward 30 years or so and we find history repeating itself. Another anti-war movement involving people like Cindy Sheehan was compromised. Again, Progressives like Nancy Pelosi saw this as an opportunity to seize power. They used Sheehan as a means to an end using the successful model of the 60′s and 70′s as their framework. They turned the truly anti-war protesters into an anti-Republican, but mostly an anti-Bush movement. Having failed to unseat George W. Bush in 2004, this new approach used people like Sheehan to propel them to victory in 2006. And they continued to fan the flames of hatred and parlayed their success into a complete and decisive takeover of all three branches of government in 2008. Much like we were cast off and discarded when those who co-opted my generation rose to power, so too were people like Cindy Sheehan. We were all simply useful idiots. Tools of the Progressive movement.

And this co-option of the movement is well documented in the music. The Hippie movement and the era of love glorified in songs like “If you are going to San Francisco” gave way to protest songs which rang out so poignantly and found willing believers among the core group advocating love and peace.

Camouflage jackets replaced Tie Dye shirts. Love beads and flower power gave way to bombs as groups like the Weather Underground and people like Bill Ayres used violence and fear to take control. “All you need is love” gave way to “Revolution” and eventually, perhaps realizing what was happening, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” stated the obvious. “Meet the new boss, same as the ole boss.”

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Barack Obama promised to end the wars. He actually has managed to get us involved in two more – Libya and Africa. And we are about to cut and run in Iraq and Afghanistan. If “Stripes” films a sequel, the writers will have to add two more wars to the “loss” total.

So, with the war protesters going home, despite the continuation of wars and the addition of new ones, the economy in the crapper, unemployment at historic lows for a historically unprecedented length of time, the prospects of Progressives retaining power is grim.

If only they had another peace and love movement full of useful idiots to use as a vehicle to maintain power.

Enter Occupy Wall Street.

Now I won’t pretend to know the exact genesis of the ‘Occupy’ movement. It is impossible to know if this was a true grassroots movement in it’s inception, or if it was conceived by Progressives desperate to hold onto the power that appears to be slipping away.

In Part II we will look at what the Occupy Richmond movement has actually agreed to and “The 99% Declaration” that is supposed to be the “demands” from the group.

Virginia Right! Blogger Visits Occupy Richmond and Is Shocked by What He Finds

Going perhaps a bit undercover I wandered down to Kanawha Plaza in downtown Richmond this afternoon to get a few pictures and gauge the people of whom I have been so critical first hand, up close and personal.

It was a cold and rainy afternoon with a snow storm moving in to our west and north. Pellets of sleet intermittently mixed with the light drizzle and the temperature hovered in the low 40′s. Cold and nasty.

I expected exactly what I had heard and seen on the news. Trash, filth, drugs, human excrement and terrible odors. And obnoxious people demanding handouts.

In fact, that is what I went down there to document.

But a strange thing happened on the way to expose these greedy freeloaders for the vermin we believe them to be.

When I drove by yesterday, the tents and signs and scraggly people confirmed my impression of the place. From the outside looking in, everything appeared to be exactly as I had seen in the media and read on the internet.

But that was on the outside looking in.

I parked the car, put 50 cents in the meter, and headed into the modern day version of Sodom and Gomorrah.

And I was stunned at what I saw.

There were tents, hand painted signs, almost child-like art work in poster paint reminiscent of the 60′s. Love. Peace.

I was politely greeted by several as I snapped pictures and looked around. I came upon a medical tent and was greeted by a young African-American man named Chris. I asked him a few questions and then asked his permission to record him as he gave me the grand tour. I really hadn’t expected to find a clean camp, let alone a medical tent – one of two!

There are supply rents with clothes, food and gloves. The port-a-pottys were at the far end of the park, away from the food area and they had hot food available all the time. 24 hours.

Chris told me about their “PA” system as a few people walked by shouting “Mic Check!” Chris explained that they use this system to make announcements around the camp. One makes the announcement and the others repeat the message around the encampment. An efficient system to say the least.

He also explained the Democratic Government they had established. To pass “legislation” requires 90% approval.

I spoke with a young woman who was in the Legal Tent. I didn’t ask her name or “qualifications” but she did tell me that the group applied for a permit 9 days ago and had heard nothing.

By biggest problem with this movement has been their disregard for the law. But it seems that they are at least making an effort to comply with the law and the City of Richmond is actually dragging their feet. I have no reason to believe this woman was not being truthful, which means that the City and local media has been less than candid about the Occupy Richmond group’s efforts to do things the right way.

Shame on Mayor Jones. While I criticized Jones earlier today in a post for not evicting the scofflaws who refuse to abide by the law and obtain the proper permits, it seems that the criticism of Jones was deserved, but not because he failed to remove this group who is unlawfully assembled, but because his administration has failed to either approve or disapprove the permit.

My camp guide Chris, speaking for himself (and not the group) said he believed that the Richmond TEA Party should be refunded their money. The Public Park is free.

As of yet, the group has only seemed to come up with one message. That is that they do not like the way things are going right now. Perhaps when and if they arrive at a 90% consensus on what it is that they want, there will be less confusion and misunderstanding of what they are doing.

I believe that the mainstream media has managed to ferret out the worst of the Occupy participants and what we have seen is not representative of the majority of the group. I believe Chris and the woman I spoke with were more a part of the core of the group.

For the ones I spoke with today, what they have found is a group of humans who feel pushed out of the society we live in today. The sense of community they are seeking no longer exists. It has been replaced by an everyone for themselves mentality. I think the reason that they have no real demands is that they have yet to realize that they are looking for a time I remember as a boy. When the entire neighborhood knew one another. Where you could never get away with anything because everyone knew your name and your parent’s phone number.

I believe that while those on the outside see a group of Communists or Socialists – I know I did – what they really are is Community-ists. They just don’t know it. Sure there are aspects of communes and I was having 60′s flashbacks during my visit. And I suppose that any good movement needs a villain. For the Hippies it was the Vietnam War and the Establishment. For the Occupiers, it seems to be banks. I am not sure how that actually fits the puzzle, but it seems to work as the catalyst that binds the Occupy Movement together.

Perhaps picking a bad weather day for my visit allowed me to see only the core – or heart – of the group as the camp was not very crowded in such nasty conditions. But the people I met today were not ACORN, SEIU or other unions, nor were they anti-Semites or Nazi’s. There were no drugs or alcohol and these people did not smell bad, although the cold weather may have had a positive effect on that, I don’t know.

Some were at work. That was not something I expected. They go to work and return there to sleep. Some go to school and return there at night.

But I will say that I walked away with a totally different perspective and point of view from when I walked in. I still don’t see a clear message or set of demands. But I also do not see a group of people who want to bring down America, either.

Now don’t worry. I will not be moving my tent to Kanawha Plaza and marching on the Bank of America tomorrow. But I will return again to investigate some more. I hope to attend an Assembly meeting and perhaps learn what exactly they are discussing.

For those looking for a sense of belonging who feel they are unable to find it in the mainstream community, they really seem to find a genuine sense of family and love here. Occupy Richmond may simply be an exceptional branch of the movement with others, like Wall Street, being the ugly side of the movement, who knows? New York is sure to attract a far more unsavory element than Richmond. Perhaps that is the difference.

But I now think that this is, at the very least, an interesting experiment. It is not the TEA Party. The two are totally different.

The TEA Party is a community looking for a specific list of items to be addressed. The Occupy Movements are a group searching for a sense of community. So far, at least. The two groups have little in common, but they also have little in opposition, either. They are not opposites in any way. Just two groups on the same path in pursuit of happiness.

Richmond Mayor Jones – EITHER DO YOUR JOB or RESIGN!

Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones sympathizes with the Occupy Richmond zombies who have set up a tent city in Richmond’s Kanawha Plaza in Downtown Richmond.

Jones was quoted in a Times Dispatch article as saying:

“I understand protests and occupations and I have been involved in similar types of activities during my lifetime,” Jones said, echoed by the chorus. “And for that reason, we have been lenient in terms of your occupation and protest movement.”

By lenient, Jones really means that he has turned his back on the illegal occupation and willfully failed to uphold the laws he is sworn to enforce. Make no mistake, this may be a passive non-enforcement on the part of the police, but it is an active decision by Jones to prevent the police from enforcing the laws that has Jones in breach of his mayoral duties.

He has not been lenient, he has been actively preventing the laws of this city from being enforced.

The same TD article goes on to report:

“As mayor of the city I’m going to have to ensure that the laws of the city are enforced,” Jones told the crowd of about 30 people gathered around him. “We will send representatives to talk to you at some future date about that.”

City code makes it “unlawful for any person to camp, tent, encamp or quarter upon any public grounds, parks, playfields, playgrounds or any public property owned or maintained by the city,” which would seem to apply to the occupation that began Oct. 15.

As one who attended all three of the Richmond TEA Party Tax Day Rallies and “live blogged” the last two of them. I am keenly aware of the diligence with which the TEA Party group made sure they obtained all permits, provided adequate sanitation facilities, security and even paid the city for the use of the park at Kanawha Plaza. Money that the TEA Party is now demanding that they be refunded – some $10,000 – because Jones is not enforcing the laws equally.

We agree. The city should reimburse the Richmond TEA Party. Jones is showing favoritism to a group of people who advocate the abolition of capitalism. These are not people looking for civil rights and freedom. They are looking to destroy anyone with more money than they have. They want a handout, not a hand up.

There is nothing righteous or noble in their demands. And for Jones to sympathize because he was a part of the civil rights struggle only cheapens the Civil Rights movement.

Jones should be ashamed for making the comparison. The occupy “movement” is neither civil, nor right. They are akin to spoiled children demanding new toys from their parents, unwilling to work or even behave properly in exchange.

They are greedy, envious and lazy. The dredges of society that wants to turn the American Dream into a nightmare. They are Communists, Socialists, Anarchists and worse. This is an un-American group of misfits unwilling to make their own way in life, unwilling to earn a living and incapable of earning respect, unless you happen to be Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones.

Mayor Jones: Do your job or step aside. You are a disgrace to Richmond and an embarrassment to Virginia.

Perhaps the Richmond TEA Party should consider filing a writ of mandamus to compel Jones to perform his duty and expel the occupiers from our public spaces. Even if unsuccessful, it will at least bring attention to Jones dereliction of duty and perhaps attract national media attention. Something Jones is unlikely to welcome as incidences of rape, theft and violence grow at these sites around the world.

And in the end, taxpayers will be left with a hefty bill to clean and repair the Plaza, which will harm every citizen in the city of Richmond as their tax dollars are diverted from other areas to pay for the mess Jones has allowed.

The Times Dispatch is conducting a poll.

Should the Tea Party get a refund from the city? (Click here to vote.)

As of this morning, 77% of 940 respondents say “Yes”.

Take the poll and call Mayor Jones and tell him what you think. His number is 804-646-7970.

Below is a message from the Richmond TEA Party. It is good reading. And there is a link to donate. Please consider a small donation (or large) if you can. Even a couple of dollars will help. I am sure they plan another TAX Day Rally for 2012 (at least I hope they will) and we all know that Jones will insist they obtain the proper permits and provide the necessary services at RTP expense.

Message from Richmond TEA Party:

Richmond Tea Party Takes on City Hall

The media and Big-Government politicians have continually tried to compare the Occupy groups to the Tea Party movement. As you know, there are a great many differences. For starters, Tea Party people clean up after themselves and are respectful of those around them, especially police officers (and their vehicles!). The biggest difference, though, is that we are law abiding citizens.

Despite that, how does the City of Richmond treat us verses Occupy Richmond? The Mayor is allowing Occupy Richmond to blatantly break the law day after day because “Jones said that as a ‘child of civil rights’ and protests, he had allowed the group to remain in the park.”(RTD)

One of the basic principles of our country is that laws should be applied equally. It seems that our city officials have decided that this principle doesn’t apply to the Occupiers.

The Richmond Tea Party has held its Tax Day Rallies for the past three years at Kanawha Plaza. We had to start the process weeks in advance in order to obtain the numerous permits required and we had to pay for the use of the park and for police, emergency personnel and sanitation. Occupy Richmond has had to do none of this.

In keeping with the principles of our founders the Richmond Tea party has decided to rectify this blatantly unequal application of the laws by sending an invoice to the Mayor’s office of the City of Richmond for a full refund of all charges we paid for our three previous rallies. We hope the city will honor the trust people have empowered them with and faithfully adhere to the principle of equal application of the law by refunding our money for the use of Kanawha Plaza in the past. Richmond Tea Party is also discussing this issue with an attorney.

Would you like to help us fight the unfair treatment of the Richmond Tea Party by the government and the media? The best way to control our message of restoring the constitutional principles and fighting for fiscal responsibility is to buy our own ads to combat the UNEQUAL treatment of law abiding citizens. Please help us:

Also, vote in the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s poll about whether we should be reimbursed for our Tax Day Rallies based on unequal treatment by the City of Richmond:

And it wouldn’t hurt to call the Mayor’s office and let them know what you think about this. (804) 646-7970.
