The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the employment numbers for March today, but news reports suggest they’re disappointing. The Wall Street Journal writes, “U.S. job growth slowed in March, and the labor force shrank, signaling that the economy could be losing momentum. Jobs outside of agriculture grew by 120,000 last month—half the number that the [...]

Senate Democrats are moving forward with yet another stimulus bill this week, this time a $60 billion infrastructure stimulus (including $10 billion for an infrastructure bank), despite the fact they know there are bipartisan concerns about the bill and that they know it can’t pass. According to The Hill today, “Obama will try to [...]

‘His latest stimulus bill is so flawed that Senate Democrats have rejected it… It’s nothing but a rehash of the same failed ideas he’s already tried, combined with a huge tax increase. This is a cynical political ploy that’s designed not to create jobs for struggling Americans, but to save the President’s own job.’ [...]

According to the AP, President Obama will travel to Texas today to push his $447 billion stimulus bill and Politico reports that Vice President Joe Biden will similarly be stumping for the bill in Florida. On Tuesday, President Barack Obama tried to keep the pressure on Congress to consider his nearly $450 billion jobs bill, saying it had been two weeks since he sent the bill to Capitol Hill “and now I want it back.” “I want it back, passed, so I can sign this bill and start putting people [...]

The Wall Street Journal reports today: “The prospects for President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan grew dimmer Monday as he unveiled the fine print of how it would be paid for—primarily through tax increases that Republicans said would destroy jobs, not create them. . . . ‘I remain very optimistic about our future. Americans are the hardest working, most industrious, and innovative, most entrepreneurial people in the world. And if we just let them, they will build more factories, start more businesses, hire more workers, produce more goods, and create more inventions. But first, government has to get out of the [...]

The 2010 edition of the 9-12 Rally in DC was, at a distance, very similar to the 2009 version; patriots attended from all across the nation, the wore colorful clothing and carried very witty signs. The numbers didn’t quite match last year but given many who might have attended were just in DC on 8-28 at Glenn Becks Restoring Honor Rally, the turnout was impressive. What struck me most was the notable difference between ’09 and ’10. In 2009 the throngs of concerned citizens marched to our capital to let their elected officials know that they were not happy with the fiscal irresponsibility of the Federal government, their dissatisfaction with the stimulus bill and their opposition to the proposed Obamacare bill, Cap & Trade and Card Check. Today …

Gallup writes today, “Americans of all political persuasions say the economy and jobs are the most important problems facing the country today. These concerns easily outpace all others, thus providing politicians seeking office in this fall’s midterm elections with clear marching orders from their constituents: Fix the economy. . . . In the Aug. 5-8 [...]

This morning, President Obama went to the podium in the Rose Garden to accuse Senate Republicans of blocking an extension of unemployment benefits. USA Today writes, “A Republican filibuster that has three times blocked the extension ‘reflects a lack of faith in the American people,’ Obama said. ‘They’re not looking for a handout. They desperately [...]

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll out today confirms once more that Americans disagree with key aspects of the Democrats’ agenda and instead prefer Republicans.
The poll found that respondents believe the government’s number-one priority should be “job creation and economic growth.” But they don’t believe the $862 billion stimulus is meeting that need or will meet it in the future. For the first time in this poll, more respondents, 42%, said the stimulus bill “will not” help the economy than say it has (18%) or it will (20%) help the economy, combined.
Residents of Buffalo, NY, where President Obama is going to have yet another rally to promote his economic plans, are apparently frustrated enough with the economy to greet the president with a billboard reading, “I need a freakin job.”

Once again this week, Americans have seen how poorly the rhetoric of President Obama and Democrats in Congress matches up with reality. On unemployment and health care, Democrats’ promises have rung hollow and it’s apparent to anyone who read the news this week.

President Obama and Democrats in Congress are asking the American people trust them that their financial regulation bill ends bailouts, but over the last year Democrats have given Americans numerous reasons to be skeptical.
When Congress passed President Obama’s $862 billion stimulus bill, the administration was assuring members that the bill would keep unemployment around 8% and create 3 to 4 million jobs. Yet late last year the unemployment rate was 10.2% and has since hovered at 9.7%. And over 3 million jobs were lost during the course of 2009.
