Here is a great article on the new PAC that former LP candidate for House of Delegates (lower house of VA legislature) in Northern Virginia (Here is the blog’s coverage of Tellez from the campaign!) in the Independent Political Report:
In the 2013 election, 45% of the seats for the House of Delegates were uncontested. The sheer number of uncontested seats implicates a problem with our democracy in the Commonwealth. It is the mission of our organization to support candidates who respect individual rights and private property rights with financial contributions and consultation for running a first time campaign. The organization seeks to increase the number of contested elections and facilitate the free exchange of ideas. It is our hope that we can play a part in bringing this number down to zero over the next several years.
It is our hope that we can bridge political divisions by focusing on a non-partisan issue: fostering contested elections and bringing accountability to our representatives by helping first time candidates stand on equal footing with incumbents. I am asking you to please volunteer your time, money and efforts to preserve our democracy. We cannot allow the status quo to continue if we seek to remain a free society.
I agree! Uncontested elections over the long run, even if you like the candidate [I prefer not to see a contest against say Del. Peace or Sen. McDougle or Del. Fowler, for example!], are bad for democracy and they corrode the political system.
Here is the FB page and the website of the new Liberty Unity PAC. Tellez is also the NOVA LP party chair.
