I had mixed feelings about this article:

Democrats Slam Obama Over Secretive Trade Deals, Say He Needs Economics ‘Refresher’

This story sounds funny but it is ominous:  The Obama Administration is seeking the GOP-controlled Congress to endorse his Trans-Pacific Partnership – the secret trade deal that even some progressives oppose and has been reported here at VR as a sovereignty-killerHere’s the story in the Huffington Post and here’s a few highlights and my comments:

Under authority that expired years ago, the president was allowed to “fast-track” trade deals with little input from lawmakers, who could only vote yea or nay on the final deal. Obama has since shown interest in reviving this authority, urging Congress to back fast-track legislation. With this authority, the president could quickly close the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an aggressive and controversial trade deal he is pursuing with countries in Asia and the Pacific region.

But some of his base remains skeptical. [Florida Democrat Rep. Alan] Grayson said the president “has an outdated view of how our economy works” and is relying upon the writings of David Ricardo, an economist 200 years ago “who was living in a world where you’d exchange clothing for chickens. The world has changed.”

“The president needs to go back to his college economics course and maybe take a refresher,” he added.

Sandy agrees with Rep. Grayson about as often as there is a naked-eye comet visible in the sky at night from Virginia!  But Cong. Grayson IS right about the need for econ lessons for the President!  He does need the econ refresher and I know the guy who can tutor the President on economics:  Dr. Cong. (or is it Cong. Dr.) Dave Brat!

But this is scary from new Senate leader Mitch McConnell:

On Wednesday, new Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) promised to grant this authority to Obama in the new Republican-controlled Congress. “I’m happy the president has now become a born-again free trader. It’s high time,” McConnell said.

Not so fast!  I urge every constitutionalist and tea party patriot to call or email their GOP representative right away and say NO to the Trans-Pacific Partnership.  It a secret sovereignty killer that may place foreign corporations above US law and courts and use unelected, unaccountable tribunals to force changes in local laws.  I have already sent my email to the economist in Congress – my representative – Dr. Cong. Dave Brat!  But whoever your representative is – call or email him or her.  No fast-track trade authority period!
