What a difference a year makes! In 2012, there were no Libertarians on the ballot (Xavian Draper was a write-in) for Congress.
Then in 2013, over 145,000 people (about 6.5% – even though he was extremely unlikely to win) voted for Libertarian Robert Sarvis.
Now the climate is very different in 2014 (you could call it climate change! 🙂 )
I just heard that the Virginia LP will have candidates (subject to getting their signatures) in every congressional race (US Senate and all eleven house seats) except maybe the Third and the Fifth Districts. The Fifth District might not have a Democrat and the Seventh will only have the winner of the Cantor/Brat primary and a Libertarian!) They seek candidates for those districts and I’d say if you are interested, let Robert Sarvis know your interest. It’s info [at] robertsarvis.com. (A certain blogger at Virginia Right was encouraged in fact to seek the nomination for the Third District seat – and that blogger had been previously asked by a important leader in the LP to run in the Seventh as the LP candidate! I said no to both but I admit I was tempted – and am honored greatly! It would have been interesting to challenge Rep. Bobby Scott who is the poster child for big government and dependency and President Obama’s policies.)
I have contacted an important leader in the LP and am awaiting confirmation of this. Any registered voter can run for Congress in any district as the Constitution only requires the candidate live in the state, not the district, although virtually all major party hopefuls live in the district they expect to serve.
I am not endorsing the LP or its candidates but I think it is important for this blog to have good ink for the minor parties. But this also means I got a lot of interviews to do. I think I’ll see how many make the ballot and interview (other than Xavian Draper, who is promised an interview already) those who make the ballot. It takes a 1000 signatures to run for Congress.
UPDATE: The Second District LP just nominated Allen Knapp for Congress today. Here is his website; he has contacted me for an interview.

Perhaps it is a reflection and a recognition that more people are coming around to the truth that both political parties establishments are terribly corrupted.
If Cantor would somehow squeak by in his primary contest it is Sarvis all the way.

I agree Bob. I like Sarvis personally. I love his family. I love his personality. I’m still murky on his politics. Actually, I’m still confused as to the Virginia Libertarian Party’s politics.

I’m stuck in Whittman’s district. If we’re not going to primary him, maybe we should get a good Libertarian on the ballot to get him out of office. Maybe the Republicans could run a conservative, maybe even a constitutional libertarian, after Whittman’s gone? That could be fun.
