A candidate forum set up by the Ashland Herald-Progress and the so-called Friends of Hanover Schools for the delegate race in the 55th District.  Here is a small and useful blurb from the FOHS:

Friends of Hanover Schools and The Herald Progress Presents: 55th District Candidate Forum

When: Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 7:00 PM

Where: Patrick Henry High School Auditorium

This is your chance to hear what the candidates have to say about a number of issues. Audience members will have the chance to ask questions as well. Please take some time to visit the websites of these candidates:

I might try to make it that night even though PHHS is a hike on a school night from M’ville!  Remember, I am for Fowler but I am glad the Libertarian is there, too.

Clearly, Toni Radler won the hearts and minds of voters at the debate. She held an impressive command of the facts and issues. Unlike her ill-prepared opponent, Buddy Fowler, Radler was articulate, pragmatic, and moderate. Chris Sullivan was much more articulate than Fowler. Unfortunately, Fowler isn’t a genuine candidate and it was obvious. He was totally out of his element and had to rely upon a script?! At least Radler will work in a bipartisn fashion. She also wants to represent the People – not special moneyed interests or Tea Party extremists who think it’s absolutely okay to hold our country hostage on the basis of a dangerous ideological extremism. Tea Party or terrorists? I don’t see the difference.

    • I cannot comment on the debate – you may well be right. But I would rather have Buddy Fowler reading from a script I agree with than Toni Radler and her pro-abortion stance in the General Assembly. It is a shame that Sullivan may not be taken seriously unless Sarvis does well in the 55th. I do strongly disagree with your characterization of tea party as terrorists. I think Obamacare is dangerous ideological extremism. And this is just the start. Obama’s big plan is to make the majority dependent on government and then the Dems will win most elections and the USA will no longer be exceptional anymore. Just another socialist “paradise”. Alas, the tea party people will never hear from Radler since she is not attending the forum she was invited to by the PH tea party. Thanks for coming by, Melissa.

It’s too bad you were unable to attend the forum. Toni Radler clearly stated that she is not for abortion, but rather for safeguarding a women’s right to choose what she does or does not do with her body. I would think, from a libertarian perspective, a woman’s individual freedom to decide what happens to her body would be supported? Does “liberty” only apply to men?

I apologize for equating Tea Party folks with “terrorists” – perhaps I should have said, “patriotic traitors”? I find the Tea Party’s positions hypocritical, contradictory, self-serving, racist, homophobic, xenophobic and certainly not in the best interest of our country. I don’t know how the Tea Party plans to expand their base when they exclude so many?

I can only guess that Ms. Radler declined an invitation to the PH Tea Party forum because she would not garner any votes from Tea Party members. From my experience, the candidate’s goal is to target and persuade voters. Why should Radler agree to be used as a prop for a public relations stunt that merely seeks to recruit more Tea Party members (and dollars)?
