Dave Brat (Budget Committee member) on the passage of House budget

WASHINGTON, DC (March 26, 2015) – Following is a statement from House Budget Committee member Rep. Dave Brat on the passage of the House budget:

“The House passed a budget that takes aim at fixing some of the greatest threats facing our nation – Washington’s habit of spending more than it takes in each year, our $128 trillion debt, and Obamacare’s economy-suffocating costs and mandates.

“This budget repeals Obamacare in its entirety, allowing for alternative reforms that actually can lower costs and provide greater access to affordable care.  It balances the budget within 10 years and puts us on a path to pay off our enormous national debt by 2050.  It creates the first steps of desperately needed reforms to our retirement programs, so they don’t run out of money and so we can keep our promises to those who rely on them. It also recognizes that federal one-size-fits-all mandates are often not the best answer, giving flexibility to the states to implement solutions more tailored to the needs of their citizens.

“This budget focuses on relief from onerous and often ineffective federal regulations that hold back our job creators. For far too long, the American people have been forced to suffer under a government that is not working for them — resulting in an economy with stagnant wages, poor job opportunities, sputtering growth, and an endless list of demands on our businesses from politicians and regulators instead of from customers.

“While no budget is perfect, this is a solid plan that demonstrates Congress is working to turn this economy around and create an environment that spurs job creation and higher wages for all Americans.  I am thankful for the leadership of my friend and colleague, House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price, for demonstrating that House Republicans are here to govern.”
