Democrats Negotiate With Drug Companies to Screw Insured

In a move the Democrats are clucking about as if they just laid an egg, pharmaceutical companies agreed to “spend” $80 billion dollars over the next 10 years to improve the drug benefit for seniors.

The moron behind this is Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont. He believes he has found a way to help President Obama’s plan to nationalize health care without increasing the deficit or raising taxes.

In the Baucus scheme, drug companies would “subsidize” prescriptions for Seniors for up to half the cost of the drug. The entire cost of the drug would be applied to the out of pocket maximum, so the Medicare recipient would have the government pick up more of their other expenses than it would otherwise pay.

Well, there goes the revenue neutral part. In essence, Baucus is lowering the out of pocket maximum, which will increase the deficit and require more taxes to pay for the shortfall caused by increased benefits.

Second, when did you actually hear of a pharmaceutical company subsidizing anything? And does Baucus even know the meaning of subsidize?

1. to furnish or aid with a subsidy.
2. to purchase the assistance of by the payment of a subsidy.
3. to secure the cooperation of by bribery; buy over.

Wonderful. So Medicare will lower the out of pocket expense and incur additional costs, which Baucus wants to ignore. But the good news is, the drug companies will “subsidize” $80 billion over 10 years in drug costs.

Reality Check: Do you really expect big pharmaceutical companies to donate $80 billion to the Seniors cause out of the goodness of their hearts? That is not going to happen, I promise you. What will happen is the cost of those drugs will rise and those with insurance will be forced to pay the increase. This will cause the ever rising cost of health care to rise even more. It will also put more drugs out of reach of those too young for Medicare.

So, the reality is, the Baucus scheme does two things.

1) It shifts the costs of drugs onto those with insurance and
2) the inevitable increase in premiums for private health insurance will make Obamacare more palatable.

Spread the wealth, screw the people. Yes we can!
