For Those Hoping for a Dump Trump Moment at the Convention – Watch the 2012 Roll Call

“I’m not going to vote for Donald Trump” says a few clueless Virginia Delegates to the GOP National Convention.

Well, I will have to agree with them. They are not going to vote for Donald Trump. But they are not going to vote for Ted Cruz either. Or anyone else.

We already did that in Virginia. And Trump won. The first round ballots were cast in the primary.

For the first round, delegates will receive no ballot, no instructions on how to cast their vote, nobody will give a hoot who you supported in the Primary. You are as irrelevant as the vendors selling buttons as far as the outcome of the GOP convention first round of voting goes.

Here is what will happen. The spokesman for the Virginia Delegation will stand up at a microphone, say a few words on why Virginia is such a great place to live and work, perhaps talk about a few Virginia products and tourist attractions. And maybe a patriot or two from years gone by.

And then the Chairman/Spokesman will read the results of the Primary and the Delegate Allocation as voted on in the Virginia Primary earlier this year. And most of the Delegates will go to Donald Trump. And the crowd will cheer and the speaker on the stage will repeat the Virginia Count. And the next state will be called upon.

So what happens if one or more of the Cantoresque slate of Cruz supporters, forced upon Virginia at the State Convention by former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli objects to voting for the allocated and bound candidate chosen in the Virginia Primary? “Such support shall not be recognized.”

Rule 16(a)(2):

“(2) The Secretary of the Convention shall faithfully announce and record each delegate’s vote in accordance with the delegate’s obligation under these rules, state law or state party rule. If any delegate bound by these rules, state party rule or state law to vote for a presidential candidate at the national convention demonstrates support under Rule 40 for any person other than the candidate to whom he or she is bound, such support shall not be recognized. . .”

(Emphasis added)

Take a look at the video below from the 2012 Convention. This will give you an idea of how things will go in Cleveland. The video should start where the roll call starts. If not, jump to the 11 minute (or so) mark. Nobody voted. Nobody counted voted. The bound delegates are simply spoken on the floor as a matter of formality. Anyone deviating from that will simply be ignored. You can watch a couple or three of the states, or more if you want, to get a feel for how this will work. If you want to watch the whole thing, you go right ahead!

But these are the 2012 rules! The rules have not been approved yet for 2016.

Again, absolutely correct. But the chances of the GOP passing rules to abandon the will of the Republican voters in 50 states and several territories and denying the nomination to the candidate that just received more votes than any GOP candidate … ever, is simply not going to happen. And a note to the biggest proponents of the Dump Trump idea, most of whom are Cruz supporters, Ted Cruz will never be the nominee. So all of those hoping to dump Trump and put in Ted Cruz, it is not going to happen. We would get a RINO like Romney or Ryan.

And then the GOP will then cease to exist. Hillary will win the presidency and the Democrats will inherit the House and the Senate as millions of Republicans become former Republicans and abandon the party forever.

So if you are hoping for a long shot usurpation of the guy that won the nomination in 36 states, received the most votes ever and defeated 16 pretty good Republicans in the process, the consequences of such action will spell the end of the GOP. And for all it’s warts and imperfections, the GOP is still far and above the last hope we have for our diminishing nation.

Changing nominees at this point is suicide for the Republican Party. And the sad thing is, some of the loudest whiners would prefer to see the Democrats take over in a one party rule than to see Donald Trump win the nomination or the presidency.

In absolutely no universe is that a better or an acceptable alternative. And anyone thinking such is, I would submit, mentally ill.

Donald Trump will be the Republican Nominee.

There are enough clear thinking people to understand any other outcome in Cleveland will rip the party apart making today’s tiff between the #NeverTrumper’s and the rest of the party seem like a picnic.

All factually accurate. People shouldn’t be sure worried. Trump is the nominee. Even folks like me who don’t like that need to accept it. He’s the nominee. It’s Trump or Hillary.

Trump reflects the diminished influence of the social conservative wing of the republican party. Arguing over abortion ,gay marriage, deregulation of our failed drug war etc is becoming more apparent to broader swaths of voters who recognize that the national defense and economic arenas are where the fight is.

After September 30th only 16% of the National Debt ( Treasuries that exist ) will have a longer duration than 10 years. If people understand the implications of that and what it means they couldn’t sleep at night. Fighting over a gay marriage law will seem pretty silly when the economic ramifications hit related to the debt bubble. Fighting over what a free person wants to do to their own body will seem pretty silly when these sleeper cells begin their reign of terror on our own soil.

Simply put more of these voters are coming to understand getting our fiscal priorities and economic growth back to normal ranges, controlling the immigration and our porous borders, setting a McArthur or Patton like mentality towards Radical Islam is a hell of a lot more important than anything else social conservatives raise as pressing.

We get these issues on the right trajectory and then we can start putting up proper gender rest room signs again . Until then let the churches and the ministry fight that fight. It has and continues to drain energy and resources from where they need applied.

I must admit that I have over my lifetime developed some respect for those gallantly fighting the battle of the “lost cause.” But this effort, by this group, isn’t one it’s more along the line of the “stupid cause” generating months of party churning to no rational expected outcome other then nonsense and personal grandstanding, rather then to the task at hand, fighting a more and more seriously wounded looking candidate Clinton as the polls are beginning to reflect. They haven’t even come close to putting a stake through future nominee Trump’s heart but as regarding the state of the conservative political movement in the eyes of the typical state and national voter that is another question altogether. The time may have come to jettison some conservative fellow travelers if the movement is going to survive the passing of the baby boomers age and into the 21st century millennial voting future.
