I had not written much about hockey because I can only tolerate so much sports imperialism and self-glorification at one time.  But this report from SB Nation is a roster list of how the nations are doing in NHL players.

Of course, USA and Canada have 25 NHL players with Sweden shortly behind with 24.  The Czech Republic and Finland have 17 and 16 respectively with Russia and Slovakia having 14 each.

Then we get to nations with more non-NHL players.  Switzerland (one of my favorite nations) has only eight NHL players, Austria has three  and Slovenia (The tiny and beautiful nation I wrote about earlier today!), Norway and Latvia (one of the three brave Baltic Republics who God allowed to regain their independence from the Evil Empire in 1991!) have one each.

So there you have it.  I know who to root for:  Latvia, Slovenia and Norway and possibly Austria.  Since the USA just crushed Slovakia 7-1 (A huge difference in a hockey game and they have 14 NHL players) today, I am not very optimistic about any of these nations winning a medal.  Remember what Coach Herb Brooks said:  When you have a Dream Team, no one gets to dream.

Guess the Slovenes will have to wait until the Olympics are no longer dominated by money and power to dream about a hockey medal.  Maybe the NHL will finally say they have had enough:  in 2018.  I’ll take the good news but it is for the wrong reasons.

Below is the response that I sent to Del. Peace regarding his most recent update.

Chris, thanks for the update. I actually look forward to reading them! I know that you are working hard for Virginia!

First off, in the race for the 10th CD, will you be supporting the Conservative, Bob Marshall? Or, the tax and spend Liberal, Barbara Comstock? (2013 Session, HB 1930)

Next up, MIA, I do not see anything in your update about ethics reform legislation? Would any company with a net worth of $100 million get an exemption?

Or, will $egislators be able to rack up frequent flier miles traveling to The Master’s, or, maybe going on a “safari ” on a corporate jet owned by a company with a net worth over $100 million? Not that anyone has ever done such a thing like that!

Dominion, and their $egislation this week, have you ever said no to any $egislation they wanted?

Didn’t a company with a net worth over $100 million, import a couple lobbyist “contractors” this year? Let me guess, blonds with credit cards?

And, will there be an exponential increase in spending in this years thus far top secret budget, by the Liberal Republican’s?

Oh, and let’s tell Gov. Terry Mcauliffe, NO, and HELL NO, to any borrowing plans he has in mind!

Most likely the Republican ‘s will want to borrow more than the Dem’s, and sneak in another tax increase to boot!

  2. Glad to see Gene back but I wonder if this would have been better as a guest post. Check with Tom White.

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
