Well, Sanders, how can we?  By applying for state boards and commissions.  It might hurt my chances, but go all out!  On April 1, 2010, the Governor’s office will seek members to serve on boards and commissions.  It’s a great and quiet way to advance the principles we love.  Believe it, the left has no hesitation about doing it.  See my previous blog entry about the Texas state board of education for details of how ordinary persons (one a Regent grad!) can make a difference.

Boards and commissions range from the State Board of Education to the Milk Board.  Do you like Israel?  There’s a Virginia-Israel Advisory Board.  How about the Air Pollution Control Board?  The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Investment Authority needs a “citizen investor” for a seat on the board.  There’s even a Pork Industry Board but I am afraid it’s not the kind of pork we need to get rid of!  And what about our state colleges and universities?  They need board members.

Check out the site of the Secretary of the Commonwealth.  Here’s the 2010 appointments.

Many of these positions require specialized needs.  But many just need citizens.  If you are a registered voter, you may be eligible.  You may also nominate others.  Go for it!  Make a difference in your Commonwealth!   Help Governor McDonnell accomplish his goals.
