Let me make one thing clear – I wanted Rep. Castle to win in the worst way.  He was moderate but he is a creative legislator who found a niche with the revitalization of our coins.  But, I got to now support Christine O’Donnell.  She appears to be a friend of social conservatives as well as a Tea Party favorite.

But O’Donnell has been criticized as unelectable.  This may happen; she is reputed to have personal baggage that could detract from the message.  However, how should she run in Delaware, a state that voted for Obama in 2008?

Some ideas:

1.  Spending and debt. Surely voters in Delaware are concerned about 13 trillion dollar debt.  If not they should be.  I would run ads calling for spending cuts and tax cuts – the first to cut the debt and the second to stimulate the economy.  “My opponent will not cut spending; I will.”  Start with foreign policy:  Get rid of unnecessary bases and programs; show how ruinous wars cause our best and brightest to needlessly die – many come home – to Dover, Delaware!

2.  Taxes. The Bush tax cuts (call them by their date not by the name of the President) must be continued.  There is ample evidence that tax cuts stimulate the economy – Harding in the 20s, JFK in the 60s, Reagan in the 80s, and today’s cuts.  The ruinous wars hurt the economy – not tax cuts.  O’Donnell could also call for a simpler tax code or a flat tax or even a national sales tax in lieu of the income tax.

3.  The Constitution. Delaware is the First State because it was the first one to ratify the Constitution.  Their citizens ought to be concerned about government exceeding its constitutional bounds – such as Obamacare.  Remind the voters of Delaware that they can act again to save the Constitution:  Elect Christine O’Donnell to US Senate!  Run a TV ad showing Caesar Rodney traveling to Philly to save the Declaration of Independence and how Delaware was FIRST to ratify the Constitution.  Get bags of the Delaware state quarter and give one out everywhere you go – and thank your opponent for coming with an imaginative idea that saved the Treasury nearly FIVE billion dollars!

4.  Jobs. No job-killing bills like cap and trade; nor do we listen to GATT, WTO, NAFTA etc.  Voters want real solutions to bring jobs back to the USA.  Talk about how the manufacturing base is essential for our national defense.  No tax deduction for outsourcing jobs abroad.  When the WTO objects, tell ’em to go fly a kite – withdraw from the WTO instead.

I think the baggage, if any, needs to be aired now and honestly so it is dealt with.  Let it not detract from the message.  Vote the message.  These issues ought to be tops for Delaware voters; not one is unusual.

Now that I have saved the election for Christine O’Donnell, The bill’s in the mail…
