This Methodist lady, Martha Mullen, is my hero this week (I hate the word heroine, it’s sexist and looks like a candidate for the police blogger!) for this brave act: Ensuring that there was a burial site for the terrorist Tamerian Tsarnaev. She was motivated by the words of Jesus:
“Jesus tells us to love our enemies, not hate them after they’re dead,” said Martha Mullen, in a phone interview. “That’s why I kind of got this ball rolling.”
I am not crazy about this terrorist being buried here but I cannot argue as a believer with Mullen. She truly showed Jesus’ love to an enemy. It was Christ that told the parable of the Good Samarian. Devout Jews would not even travel through Samaria. For a Samaritan to show love and compassion to a Jew was unheard of. But Jesus breaks down barriers. That is both its ring of truth and its strength.
Chesed is the Hebrew word that describes God’s lovingkindness, mercy and grace. Love is not an option. It’s a command. I admire what this woman did. She lived the cause of Christ Jesus in her community. If you decide this life in Jesus is what you want, go here for details.
