It is now this time of year when we have survived Halloween and how firmly into the season of Hallmark holiday (Thanksgiving and Christmas [with probably a Hanukkah movie in too!] of course) movies – almost all great romances – boy meets girl in various situations and they end up a couple.  Harmless (well mostly harmless – many of the women are very attractive!) sentimental hogwash.

One of my favorites is The Christmas Card – the veteran (Cody) who comes to a small Western town – Nevada City and falls for a local girl (Faith) and her family.  Faith’s father was a Vietman vet (Ed Asner, whose politics is abominable but who is a fabulous actor!) who practically pushes Cody and Faith together.  Got to watch Hallmark to see the end but it’ll make you cry if you do that during movies.  The Christmas Card has lots of Christian aspects in it (hymns and churchy stuff) done in a light style.  The prayer about 30 minutes into the movie could be written for Duck Dynasty!

But I do have one small bone to pick with Hallmark.  I find it a dissonance when you hear dialogue designed for a ordinary-looking girl with a hunky guy (or perhaps vice versa!) is said by a stunningly beautiful woman or handsome guy.  Always a tiny figure, but sometimes well-curved.  So I must ask:  Why not have a more ordinary girl/guy play roles:  Maybe a plot where inner beauty is seen first and then the outer beauty becomes apparent!  Maybe some full-figured gals, too.  An affectionate full-figured gal will get my attention every time in a show!

So Hallmark, keep those sappy holiday movies coming but try out a few different ideas,  I can be hired for script ideas!  🙂
