Have you been awed by the story of Robert Harrison? Harrison is the British space hobbyist who sent up the helium balloon with a camera and got wonderful pictures like this and this– all for 500 pounds sterling! These photos are so high quality they nearly cause me to have vertigo!
Harrison used this camera in this device, carried aloft to 22 miles over the Earth – the edge of space. His camera was rigged up to take eight pictures every five minutes and run a short video. Try out this video! (It will give you some sense of falling! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!) I can’t wait until the Discovery Channel documentary on this. This article in Sky News is helpful.
People are naturally ingenuous. God placed that in us to learn and ultimately seek truth (Jesus is the Truth – John 14:6) and it is a essential rule that government should encourage it reather than discourage it. The Declaration of Independence says governments act best when they protect and encourage “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Harrison did not have a grant or subsidy. He had an idea and it worked brilliantly. I salute him.
By the way, for all those readers out there eager to try this at home – check with the FAA or your national aviation authority for the necessary permits!
Thanks first to Lew Rockwell’s blog for the initial story!
