As I explained last month, there are two ways to get the unemployment rate down. And since the Obama Administration is well aware that a jobless rate of 8% or more historically spells doom for a second term, he is doing what he can to lower that number.
The best way to shrink the number is by growing jobs. Duh!
But since Obama has placed his boot on the throat of businesses through back door regulation, ObamaCare and his desire to tax success, there is no job growth.
So the second method of shrinking the unemployment rate is to subtract workers from the workforce. That is the accounting method this administration has been forced to use.
To get the number down to 8.6%, you could create 593,000 jobs, or, as Obama just did, add just 278,000 jobs and remove 315,000 from the workforce.
Last month, we stated:
For example, in 2008, the Department of Labor showed that 66% of the people age 16 and over were in the US workforce.
As of last month, the Obama Administration recons that the US workforce has fallen to only 64.2% of the population.
What that means is that in 2008, there were 205,260,000 people in the US workforce, and today there are 199,662,000.
This month, Obama figures that there are only 64% of Americans in the work force, or 199,347,000.
We are not creating jobs. Obama is simply convincing Americans to give up. Now if only we could get the number of Americans working or looking for work under 50%, the unemployment rate would look really great by November, 2012.
Figures lie and liars figure.
