The results in the by-election in Oldham East were not very encouraging for liberty and sovereignty. The Labour candidate beat out the LibDem about about 3500 votes. Kashif Ali, the Tory candidate finished a poor third at nearly 13%. However, the UKIP picked up nearly two percent and solidly beat the BNP for fourth place.
The major party results are as follows:
Labour (Abrahams) 14,718 – 42%
Liberal Democrats (Watkins) 11,160 – 32%
Conservatives (Ali) 4,481 – 13% (this was a loss of nearly 12% from 2010)
UKIP (Nuttall) 2,029 – 6%
BNP (Adams) 1,560 – nearly 4.5%
The total vote was 34,930 which was down from 2010: 44,520 votes in 2010.
The Tories should be worried; they took a huge dive in percentages. Certainly there have been austerity measures and other initiatives that have been and will be unpopular in the short term. But, I would suggest the policy on Europe should be considered in part of the reason for the disaster. The Tories are no longer the party of liberty and sovereignty. Britain must arise to fight for itself.
