A larger than expected crowd showed up at Vince Haley’s announcement that he would run for the 12th District Virginia State Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Walter Stosch on Monday night.
Campaign workers told me they were expecting about 30 people. By my count there were around 100 in a packed private room at Roma Ristorante Italiano, located at 8330 Staples Mill Road in Henrico, VA.
Haley gave a brief bio (which can be found in the announcement on Va Right!) and then introduced members of his family that were in attendance. And he followed up the introduction with a brief explanation of why he is running and what he plans to do if elected.
His “We the People Govern” ideas to stop the expansion of Medicaid and higher taxes were popular points with the crowd, many of whom were active supporters of Congressman Dave Brat. Which is no surprise considering that Haley has tapped Zack Werrell, Brat’s Primary Campaign manager who ran the campaign that toppled long time congressman Eric Cantor.
