I was there tonight to finally see Libertarian candidate for Governor Robert Sarvis speak – at the King William TP meeting at the KW Government Center.

Sarvis is impressive.  He actually has a bit of charisma; is very smart and knows why he wants to be governor.  He mentioned a law – the Certificate of Public Need – a legal way for physicians and hospitals to protect their turf.  I have blogged on this issue:  Ought to be unconstitutional or at least bad public policy!  (The Institute for Justice is fighting this law.  They lost in the trial court and are now in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.)  Sarvis did not back down when there was a objection to marriage equality or abortion but also engaged both issues with sensitivity and respect for the other person’s strongly held positions.  The president of the KW TP, Bob Shannon, cited Sarvis’ willingness to tackle tough questions as a positive and admiring sign for a political candidate.

I am waiting for a poll to see how Sarvis is doing.  I also wonder if there may be a money bomb in the future.  Certainly if voters or libertarians or Ron Paul supporters, whether in Virginia or outside, feel they should donate to Robert Sarvis for Governor of Virginia, here is the donation page of his website.  But no word yet from the campaign on the money bomb issue.
