Libertarians Should STOP Whining about the Debates and Seek a Market-Based Solution!

I agree that former NM Governor Gary Johnson ought to be placed in the debates and I am disappointed but not surprised that the CPD’s decision.  I thought it was a long shot at best for Johnson (Dr. Jill Stein was out of the running) but it was possible.

But I would say to my libertarian friends:  Stop whining.  Do something.  Fight back – use free-market/entrepreneurial principles to have your own debate:

I have not carefully researched the issue but here’s a few thoughts:

  1. You need a network to broadcast it – more than one is better (and C-SPAN while wonderful does not count) and a reasonable time in the day for all portions of the country.
  2. You need a site to host it and hundreds of screaming fans of each hopeful.
  3. You need some sort of moderator – unless you want a freewheeling debate.  My idea of a moderator would be one not from the media or politics so as to avoid bias.  Maybe (just an idea) Pastor Rick Warren?
  4. I would say (an assumption but a very good one) no problem getting Stein and Johnson to say yes.  I would also say we will get the network or networks and the stage too.
  5. How to get Clinton and Trump?  Make the deal.  What’s it take?  Donations to veterans’ groups for Trump or maybe some other non-political charity for Clinton.  Media exposure is probably not enough.   Trump is more likely to say yes.

In short what you need is a free-market solution to bypass the CPD.  Find out what it takes and try your best to get it done.  It ain’t easy but it can be done.  Any takers?

  1. Libertarians for Trump says:

Let’s be clear- Gary Johnson is not a LIBERTARIAN. He is a straw man for HILLARY.
Johnson supports open borders, Massive Refugee influx into the US, GUN CONROL, and The TransPacific Partnership. Johnson is an idiot Globalist.

    Vote Trump in November.

Thanks for coming up Libertarians for Trump but I have to somewhat disagree. Gov. Johnson is not a shill for Hillary but rather has some libertarian tendencies. However, he has not been as strong a voice as he could have been for liberty as I would like in an effort to fit into the mainstream of what most people will tolerate.

Alex Jones and Infowars are not a very reliable source.

      Glad you will vote Trump.

  2. Libertarians for Trump says:

With all due respect Sandy, Alex Jones is A REAL LIBERTARIAN.
And when a REAL LIBERTARIAN says Gary Johnson is NO LIBERTARIAN AND can play video to prove it, Alex Jones is a credible source.

Several Libertarians have been discussing some of the options Sandy mentioned in the comments section of this blog they like to frequent:

Enjoy the Libertarian inside baseball! 😉

The closest thing I could find to an alternative presidential debate (not run by the CPD) will take place on October 25th during a political festival at the University of Colorado at Boulder. It’s being sponsored by the Free and Equal Elections Foundation in addition to the Libertarian and Green parties in that state.

Johnson, Stein, Clinton, and Trump have all been invited but I only expect Johnson and Stein to take them up on that offer.
