At my church this morning, I was inspired (again – I find somewhat regular inspiration for blog posts while I worship God at church!) by two of the verses used in the so-called worship time (Music and worship are not the same and worship is not just based upon music):
“…where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” II Corinthians 3:17[KJV]
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1 [KJV]
While I agree the Bible should never be manipulated for a political message, I also agree that God created man for freedom and liberty. That is not a license to violate God’s law (The best society would be one where God’s law is an integral and recognized part of the rules and statutes expected for all who dwell in it and where there is limited government and political freedom!) but it certainly is true that man functions best in a society based on freedom and not based on arbitrary, authoritarian government regulating every aspect of our lives. Government can take the place of God, but when it does so it can become an idol. The first interaction after the creation of man was to establish ONE rule for man to obey. (Of course man could not get that right, so here we are!)
Of course, there is true freedom and liberty in a relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The desire to be holy then arises out of the love we have for a merciful and gracious God who sent His Son to pay the bill or judgment we could not pay: at the cross. These verses reflect that true liberty is grounded in holiness. Seek it today! “…now is the day of salvation” [II Corinthians 6:2 (KJV)] Here is the place to go to learn more about eternal life in Jesus Christ: HERE
