I knew this for several days but I did not have authority to discuss it because there was some chance it would not happen. But it’s official: Robert Sarvis, the libertarian candidate for governor, is going to seek the US Senate seat of incumbent Democrat Mark Warner.
Of course I will give Sarvis fair ink again as I would all the LP candidates but I am not sure how I feel about it. I was glad some wiseacre didn’t nominate me for the Senate! Now that that is not going to happen I can rest easier! The election will be interesting. I am not endorsing anyone and I want to stay neutral this year.
Here is the Virginia Conservative’s blog post on it and there is a radio interview – Joshua Huffman is co-host on a radio show in the Shenandoah Valley! (Good for him!)
I would say, Sarvis is a genuine libertarian and save the smear stuff for last year!

Comstock a fiscal Conservative? What about the bill she introduced in the 2013 Virginia General Assembly? Her HB 1930? An inflation based, automatic, annual tax increase. A massive tax increase. This bill would have been another job killing bill, and, unnecessary financial burden on the middle-class. Conservatives do not introduce bills like HB1930. Comstock may be a lot of things, but fiscal Conservative she is not!
Her record indicates she is basically an anti-abortion specialist, closely aligned with the failed Bush 43 administration. A Washington insider.
Nobody has listed any of her GA achievements? Why not? What is it about her GA record that indicates a fiscal Conservative? Absolutely Nothing????
No. Just no. I do not approve of Sarvis, I never have and I don’t think I ever will. Is he a nice guy? Yes. Is he a Libertarian? Not a chance in heck. The man was flip-flopping on Obamacare, and he supported putting GPS trackers in cars in order to tax drivers more. That’s not Libertarian, Sarvis is not a Libertarian. He can’t be a Libertarian if he supports such invasive government programs and ideas.

These items have been thoroughly refuted by other sources. Sarvis DID NOT call for a GPS tracker to be placed in cars nor did not advocate passage of Obamacare. I blogged on this during the last campaign:

Tom White also wrote on similar smears:

I have not yet decided who to support in this election although it is important to defeat Mark Warner. Senator Warner pretends to be a moderate deficit hawk while he is really is very liberal. It’s a long time until November.
Thanks for coming by, Mack.

Allow me to be blunt, the men you cited were so close to the Sarvis team that they may as well have been on the Sarvis campaign full time. I’m not going to trust that.
Here are some sources to prove my point: http://thefederalist.com/2013/10/25/virginia-gubernatorial-candidate-robert-sarvis-libertarian-name/
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/362690/sarvis-libertarian-nope-charles-c-w-cooke
Sarvis was not and is not a Libertarian. With Democrat views on GPS trackers and Obamacare, and “Not being into Libertarian economic ideas” the man fits the bill for a Democrat or a RINO, but NEVER a Libertarian.
In 2013 Sarvis was running against an immensely unpopular Democrat and a Republican portrayed as the boogeyman. In that race, Sarvis was the “other”, the novelty if you didn’t want to vote for either of the other two men. And will all that going for him, Sarvis still didn’t break 10%.
Sarvis comes across as a perennial candidate, running for attention and never winning. If Libertarianism is to start winning races in Virginia, it won’t be with Robert Sarvis.
Thanks for replying.
