The 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly will open on September 14, 2010.  The new president of this august body is Joseph Deiss of Switzerland and his recommendation to the General Assembly for debate is and I quote:

“Reaffirming the central role of the United Nations in global governance.”

The position of the United States should be simple and direct:  The UN has all the authority it needs – too much in fact – and the US will not support ANY effort to increase the authority or the relevance of the UN, especially over the US.  The US should also look into what the likelihood of the UN failing if the US stops supporting it financially or withdraws altogether.

Contrast the EU parliament’s proposed position on the UN:

MEPs have listed six priority issues they want the Council to address at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which starts in September 2010: the EU’s place at the UN, world governance and UN reform, peace and security, development, human rights and climate change.

The EU wants a permanent seat at the Security Council and will push for total nuclear disarmament as well.  I remind my readers again:  The EU is NOT our friend.  Is it 2011 yet?  Has Ron Paul started that exploratory committee yet?
