UKIP had a great day in Thursday’s local elections.  The Guardian’s headline is:  “Local Elections:  UKIP and Respect gain ground”

The Eurosceptic party averaged about 14 per cent of the vote where its candidates were standing, mainly at the expense of the Conservatives.

Conservative MP Gary Streeter blamed defections to Ukip for his party losing control of Plymouth to Labour.

“We need to work out a strategy, certainly in the west country, for dealing with the issue of traditional voters shuffling off and voting Ukip because they don’t think our leadership is Conservative enough,” he said.

“The Ukip vote is not just about Europe,” he added.

“It’s also about a hardcore of traditional Conservative voters saying, ‘actually we don’t like the kind of small ‘l’ liberal decisions this government is beginning to take – it offends our values and we’re going to protest and vote Ukip”

Here’s a local story:  In Lincoln, UKIP DOUBLED the vote of the Liberal Democrats!

UKIP has attracted new support and members from the Lib Dems, the Tories, Labour, and even the Green party, and we take votes from all of those parties as former traditional voters look for a real alternative to the consensus politics of the LibLabCon – three parties so similar you can’t put a cigarette paper between their policies.

Here is another American blog promoting UKIP!  I like their slogan:  “ALL CAPS IN DEFENSE OF LIBERTY IS NO VICE!”

In Kent, a huge upset as a prominent Tory is ousted by a UKIP candidate!

Piers Wauchope (UKIP) 533 (38 per cent) ELECTED

Robert Atwood (Con) 487 (35 per cent)

Alex Britcher (Lab) 263 (19 per cent)

Vic Bethell (Lib Dems) 103 (seven percent)

Atwood was credited in the article with “…calming the ship after a huge internal battle within the Tory party…”

Atwood was gracious and classy in defeat:

He said: “I’m shocked but not surprised. I just feel sorry that the people of Rusthall now have two councillors they will come to regret have elected.”

And what party does the other councillor in Rusthall belong to?  UKIP of course!

Finally, let’s sum up with this wonderful posting here:

For those who have known me and my political beliefs, I expect you have probably seen this one coming from a mile off. After months of  publicly criticising the Coalition government’s authoritarian tax-‘n’-spend policies, I’ve finally defected to UKIP, the one political party in the UK that actually wants to reduce the size of government.

All lovers of liberty and followers of Christ Jesus in the UK should join UKIP.  I would if I could!  Maybe two or so Tory MPs will be encouraged to defect to UKIP in the next few days.  As soon as I hear about it; you’ll hear it too!
