I blogged yesterday about the ICC and Libya.  I made this comment in this posting:

NATO cannot bind the US to war without its consent; that requires at the VERY LEAST the consent of Congress or an authorization form Congress for the President to go to war to arrest Gaddafi.

I was not suspecting this: Obama backs Libya resolution

The Senate is going to consider a resolution to give President Obama authority to go to war in Libya:

To deflect that criticism, Obama now says he backs a bipartisan Senate resolution – which hasn’t been formally introduced yet – supporting U.S. involvement in the drive to topple Qadhafi’s regime.

“I wish to express my support for the bipartisan resolution drafted by Senators Kerry, McCain, Levin, Feinstein, Graham, and Lieberman, which would confirm that the Congress supports the U.S. mission in Libya and that both branches are united in their commitment to supporting the aspirations of the Libyan people for political reform and self-government,” Obama said in his Friday letter.

There is only ONE answer to this misbegotten idea:  NO.  NO WAR IN LIBYA.  PERIOD.  Here’s why – from the last blog (slightly edited):

The result could be mission creep – boots on the ground to enforce the ICC indictment (Compare this to the use of force – which I opposed – to capture Manual Noreiga in Panana.  At least that was based on a court of competent jurisdiction under the Constitution of the United States.) in Libya.  The boots on the ground would then have to maintain order and keep the rebels from committing their own bloodbath of Gaddafi loyalists.  We would then have to rebuild the nation of Libya – of course the oil must resume flowing right away!  Of course, this is paid for with debt from China while our own infrastructure decays and our debt mounts.  Medicare goes broke but Libya has good roads!  More American men and women die in a foreign land so the do-gooders will feel better about themselves.  Count me out.

I wonder why Senator Graham cannot be on the right side of this question.  He was okay on Goodwin Liu but then he ends up supporting this resolution with Senators Levin and Feinstein.  Senator Graham should ask this question:  Why do liberals like my ideas all the time?  Well, here’s Senator Graham’s website:  My SC readers (I see you curling upstate tonight!  Hurry hard!  Then email Sen. Graham!) should contact the website and ask politely for Senator Graham to simply follow the Woodrow Wilson principle:  He kept us out of war.  (Yes it was a lie to get elected in 1916!)  Let’s exercise that obscure First Amendment right:  Petition the government for a redress of grievances.

While you are petitioning the government, send the email to Speaker Boehner and Virginia’s own Majority Leader Eric Cantor, too!  STAY OUT OF LIBYA!  Vote NO on authority to go to war to enforce UN resolutions, ICC arrest warrants and build another nation.  Let’s build our own nation first.
