I found this useful and nifty medal tracker that projects the medal count for the upcoming Olympics and it projects the USA tying for the most golds (14) but falling short in the total medal count to, wait for it!, Norway! Norway wins 36 to 30 medals! Here it is for your further review – click on the article saying 26 different NOCs will medal.
But the sad part of this report is:
All of the 32 NOC’s currently projected at least one top-8 position in Sochi by the Virtual Medal Table have won medals before at Winter Games. There is therefore little chance of an NOC winning its first ever Winter Games medal in 2014.
That’s a shame. I am torn because I want USA to do great (even in men’s hockey which I will not watch as long as the NHL players dominate it; it’s sports imperialism) but I also like to see the smaller nations do well, too. Well, we’ll see what happens. Maybe there’ll be a super upset and a new country will medal.
