UPDATE: What the world is saying about the march.
Now they play the numbers game. Or should I say downplay. Michelle Malkin has come under fire for claiming 2 million people attended from Netroots (or as she calls them NUTRoots).
I can tell you, the traffic camera shots are not fake. As I wrote my opening and closing statements for the Bloggers Debate (sponsored in part by the Netroots Supporters), I tuned into the very same traffic cameras and watched the crowd grow. The flag was, indeed, at half mast. I did notice that and assumed it was for the 9/11 victims.
Take a look at the crowd as it gathers and marches in this time lapse view of the Traffic Camera. And if you really want to see how fearful the left really is, read some of the DailyKOS denial and the same drivel in the YouTube comments for the video below. These guys are seriously in fear, as they should be.

And as far as crowd calculations, The Examiner puts it like this:
Saturday’s “Tea Party” rally in Washington, D.C. far exceeded almost all expectations. Local police agencies estimated around 1.2 million people attended the rally, but several news outlets, including ABC and Fox News, said the crowd was nearly double that, with an estimated 2 million people in attendance.
There were no doubt hundreds of thousands in attendance. Probably less than 2 million. The police estimate of 1.2 million seems to be an average.
The crowds at the Obama inauguration were estimated at around 800,000, so there is little doubt this march exceeded the numbers to see the presidential inauguration.
And there was a big difference in the enthusiasm in the two crowds. While Governor Tim Kaine used $7 million to AstroTurf Virginians to the inauguration, plus whatever amounts were paid by other states, the 912 Marchers all paid their own way. No state assistance subsidized the true grassroots rally that occurred on 912.
This was, and will continue to be, the real deal.

So why wasn't there HUGE traffic jams in DC? There was less than 100,000 there. Keep up the delusional fantasy that you have some massive movement afoot!

Kevin, MILLIONS of people commute into DC EVERY DAY. Most drive cars. The attendees arrived mostly by bus. There were many caravans following each other. One Marine in California paid for 38 buses himself. The event was held on a Saturday, when there are few commuters and the event started at 11:00 AM. In addition, weekend traffic is far lighter after Labor Day.
To contrast, the Obama Inauguration was held on a Tuesday. While many took off from work, most did not. Traffic, normally over capacity on any given weekday, was increased.
The roads are designed for more than 2 million commuters.
You "truthers" need to stop swilling the Obama Kool-Aid and smell the coffee.

I am detecting a bit of jealousy, Kevin. That makes you an emo, does it not?
The Conservatives are far better at this than you silly, pathetic liberals that were protesting Bush. Many of us learned the art of protest in the 60's and 70's. We ARE the original protesters.
Deny it all you want. We have watched your pathetic little "protests" and laughed for years. Now we will show you how it's really done. Sit back and be amazed.
We are the original mob. Woodstock, Kent State. You're too young to remember, I am sure. The fact is, you have never seen a REAL protest. You are used to the anti Bush protests that were disguised as War protests.
This is for real. And it's JUST GETTING STARTED!
Jealous of an astroturf movement…sure…you got me…I know what I saw and it wasn't a real protest either…

Oh. I get it. You're a "Truther". I am sorry for you.
I'm hearing that it was 60,000-70,000 in attendance. No less no more. Nate Silver has a great piece on how quickly rumors turned into facts during the chaos of getting numbers. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/09/size-matte…

There were more likely over 1 million. 60-70K is an absolutely ridiculous number. Overhead photos prove that. I added a couple at the end of the post. There are enough people to fill several football stadiums.
That first photo has already been debunked.

The teabaggers used a photo from an event 10 years ago. heres a quote about why this pic is old:
"It doesn’t include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth Street and Independence Avenue that opened on Sept. 14, 2004. (Looking at the photograph, the building should be in the upper right hand corner of the National Mall, next to the Air and Space Museum.) That means the picture was taken before the museum opened exactly five years ago. So clearly the photo doesn’t show the “tea party” crowd from the Sept. 12 protest.

In your link to the left wing "truther" site, it says "apparently". Hardly debunked. Sorry. It is what it is. A massive anti-tax, grassroots rally.
Where is the missing building?
It is obvious from the "current" photo they posted for comparison that there are NO missing buildings.
What are you talking about? The photo they have posted is the fake one. Which is the same one you have.
And the term "Apparently" was applied to the date of the original photo. That could be wrong, but it def. isnt from 9/12.
yes we can !
