An MP I admire very much, Bill Cash, advocates a UK Human Rights Act to replace the “authority” of the ECHR over the United Kingdom.  Here’s his article found at ConservativeHome and at Cash’s own website.  MP Cash exposes how the Tory government has turned its back on its promises in the 2010 General Election:

“The Conservative manifesto, on which all Conservative MPs campaigned at the General Election in 2010, stated:

“To protect our freedoms from state encroachment and encourage greater social responsibility, we will replace the Human Rights Act with a UK Bill of Rights.”

But this is not the Government position:

The government commission that is to investigate the case for a British bill of rights looks set to be deadlocked from the start, with its members evenly split between human rights act supporters and sceptics.  * * * However, the terms of the commission make it clear there will be no attempt to withdraw from the ECHR, stating that the commission will seek to “incorporate and build on” ECHR obligations and “ensure that these rights continue to be enshrined in UK law”.

The Tories have broken their word due to the coalition with liberals.  This is outrageous and unacceptable; British voters must consider in the local elections and the regional elections coming up in May and send a clear message:  Vote UKIP.  This may encourage MPs to defect to UKIP.  MP Cash, I am sure UKIP would be thrilled to have a former shadow Attorney General.
