The editorial from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is right on two fronts:

An obvious solution to the problem, one that could help heal the new abrasions between the United States and Europe, is to transfer Ms. Nuland to an assignment where she would no longer be dealing with Europeans. One way or the other, she needs to go.

Of course they are right.  When a diplomat says “[you know what] the EU”, she cannot be useful to US diplomacy in Europe as long as the EU is our friend.
But the European Union is not our friend.  They paid $30 million to influence our internal politics.  The EU wants to intimately regulate every aspect of people’s lives.  Not yogurt but hard cheese in school lunches in a proposal that could have been written by the First Lady of the US.
The Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria J. Nuland ought to be reassigned.  The next President ought to promote her to the top office and change the US policy:  The EU is not our friend, it is an illegitimate superempire built on the consent of elites, run by unelected bureaucrats, and it meddles in our internal affairs.  Nuland ought to be Secretary of State.
