Well, so much for the live blogging on Hurricane Irene. A little after 3:30 PM Yesterday, the power went out and it may be a few days before it is restored. After a long, LOUD, hot and sticky night, dawn finally arrived and I had the opportunity to assess the damage.
No power. Already knew that. But we were also without water. Our neighborhood is on a well system maintained by a private company. When we lose power for very long, water pressure drops. We are at the highest point in the neighborhood and we go dry first.
Water has been restored. I assume they have the generator cranked up.
I managed to crank up my 5000 watt generator and get the most important task of the day completed. No, not the Weekly Blog Rankings. That is probably not going to happen this week.
Coffee. I must have coffee.
After that, I had to fix the doors on my shed, they were torn off the hinges during the night. I will need to make new ones. These are beyond repair, but back in place for the time being.
My internet service is down. With all the trees and limbs down, I am sure there are a number of severed cables.
But we survived and will make the best of things until the power is restored, internet is back up and life returns to what we consider normal!
