Rep. Dave Brat selects chief of staff, other staffers for congressional office

Washington, DC (November 17, 2014) – Newly sworn-in Virginia Congressman Dave Brat (R-VA) announced the hiring of three key staffers for his congressional office today.

Erin Siefring will serve as chief of staff.  Siefring comes from Heritage Action for America, where she was director of House relations.  Prior to that, she served as the legislative director for former Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL).

Brat said of Siefring, “I’m excited to announce Erin as my chief of staff. She is a strong conservative who, in her previous position as director of House relations for Heritage Action, has been an instrumental player in changing the conversation in Washington from the status quo of more spending and bigger government to enacting conservative solutions to address our nation’s most pressing challenges.  Erin knows what it means to work hard to achieve legislative goals, lead colleagues, and listen. Her strong relationships with members of Congress and their staffs will be invaluable to my office.”

Phil Rapp will serve as senior adviser.  Rapp was the campaign manager for the Dave Brat for Congress campaign during the general election and a grassroots coordinator during the primary.  He retired from the private sector in 2009 after more than 40 years as human resources executive.  Prior to the Brat campaign, he was a grassroots coordinator for several state and federal elections and was media director on the staff of Virginia State Senator Bill Stanley.  He has more than 15 years of combined active duty, National Guard, and Army Reserve service as an infantry officer in the United States Army.

Brian Gottstein will serve as the communication director.  Gottstein served as Brat’s campaign communication director during the general election.  He has more than two decades of public relations and media relations experience, is a former columnist for The Roanoke Times, and was the creator and host of Virginia’s first syndicated political talk radio show.  Before joining Brat’s campaign, he was the director of communication and spokesman for official office of former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.

Brat is putting together the rest of his Washington and Seventh District congressional office team throughout November and December.

Because of former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s early retirement, Brat was sworn into Congress on November 12th to serve the remainder of Cantor’s term in the lame duck session of Congress before he serves in the 114th Congress in January.
