Ron Paul Flying First Class on Taxpayer Dime

This was a bit of a shock due to the fact that Presidential Candidate Ron Paul has such a good record of spending control – except for earmarks.

Seems that he prefers to fly first class between Washington and Houston.

This wouldn’t be an issue if he upgraded on his own money, or if he used Frequent Flyer Miles, but I believe that government employees must turn in their miles to the government.

In the grand scheme of things, this is not a ton of money, but if you talk the talk, you should also walk (or fly) the walk.

From Newsmax:

His congressional staff says Paul chose not to buy the cheaper economy tickets at a fraction of the price because they aren’t refundable or as flexible for scheduling.

An AP review of Paul’s congressional expenses and average airfares found that Paul charged taxpayers nearly $52,000 on the more expensive tickets, or $27,621 more than the average Continental airfare for the flights between Washington and Houston.

Paul portrays himself as the most frugal and serious deficit hawk in the race.

VAright has a Jekyll/Hyde thing going with its endless Ron Paul bashing/praising.

Remember that you are talking about a man that takes no salary from being a congressman. And as far as his earmarks, he was only doing what he had to do to support his constituents. The only other way would have been for him to write single bills for each request. His record stands for itself still. We should do away with earmarks, and he would get that done if elected. You see if he is elected the states will not be sending so much money to the federal government to use as a control mechanism to impune tyranny

Tom, Did you see this report by Lawrence O'Donnell with The Last Word? Watch the entire video. It seems investigation of this by Newsmax and Associated Press is in conflict with what Lawrence O'Donnell found in his investigation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embed

Oh for gosh sakes! Ron Paul is no 30 year old and, as with any senior representative or Senator, needs to get around in a decent fashion. Wait until you're over 60 and then you fly economy all the time (and if you cancel, you get no money back!)

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
