RON PAUL’s INTEGRITY recognized by LIBERALS, too!

Mark Schmitt at The New Republic penned a clever analysis of the debate the other night.  Of course, he piled on the truly awful performance by Texas Governor Rick Perry.  (Of course he was standing next to the candidate who can say FIVE departments to abolish – Cong. Ron Paul!)

But he said what is the manifest truth:  The other GOP candidates will not reduce the size of government but Ron Paul will!

In a way, Perry’s flub, and subsequent smirk, was the most honest moment yet in the long march of Republican debates. Perry couldn’t remember the agencies he would eliminate because he wouldn’t actually eliminate any. And neither would President Newt Gingrich or President Mitt Romney. (Ron Paul probably would.) Promising to eliminate cabinet departments is simply a pro forma requirement of Republican rhetoric. It has been for decades. Perry’s indifference to the substance of the promise seemed to admit, “We all know this is just something I’m supposed to say.”

Schmitt makes the point that former Speaker Newt Gingrich could have abolished or pposed abolishing government agencies.  But he did not.

BUT note that even Schmitt admits Paul “probably would”.  He had a solid debate performance Wednesday night, so solid no one cared about it.  But voting for the other Republicans is something like what a friend of mine says, “Fighting over the bar bill on the Titanic”.

Ron Paul hit the ball out of the park in this last debate.  It’s true to form:  He’s the only member of Congress to hit a over the fence homer in the annual Congressional baseball game!  Here it is in Ripley’s Believe It or Not!  He should also be in Ripley’s for “Best politician to keep his word consistently over a long period of time” but we knew that already!  Don’t forget to honor our vets today and if you can give to the Veteran’s Day money bomb!

Nothing is more conservative than a republican wanting to get their majority back. And nothing is more liberal than a republican WITH a majority.
