San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at public meetings.  What do people think of this?

First, I would defend to the death Supervisor Kim’s right not to say the Pledge.  Kim contends that we do not have “liberty and justice for all” yet.  Is she right?  Well, is she?  I think as a friend of liberty I could find points of agreement with her.   Why is the public defender system not fully funded?  Why not more liberty friendly acts such as finding useless regulations to do away with?  Or repealing most if not all of the USA Patriot Act?

Supervisor Kim was cited as being upset that San Francisco is not a sanctuary city; that I disagree with.  Cities and towns cannot decide what laws to follow and not follow.  Does those advocating sanctuary cities have any constitutional basis for nullifying a federal law!  San Francisco has also joined ICLEI [unconstitutional foreign policy] and “adopted” the UN Treaty on the “Rights” of the child as being in force [ditto] within the City by the Bay.  San Francisco also asked the Battle Cry evangelists to leave town.

I suggest that “liberty and justice for all” is aspirational and America does believe in “liberty and justice for all”; do we fall short?  Yes we do.  But the history of the USA points toward liberty and justice for all and citizens in every age have demanded it.  Slaves were freed.  Segregation ended.  Women got the right to vote and other rights, too.  This is why the Texas Board of Education’s efforts to balance the curriculum is so pleasing to me.  America is an exceptional nation.  Only in this nation would Supervisor Kim be allowed to decide not to say the Pledge.  But I intend to proudly say it and proudly insist that the USA fully follow it.
