I did not sign up to go to the GOP Convention because I did not think I could go to Roanoke this year and that I wanted to show my family I did not need to go to every convention the GOP has.  I also decided that I did not want to become a target for someone who might take a pot shot at me because of my endorsement in 2013 of Libertarian Robert Sarvis.  Unlike a primary, a convention is a closed or semi-closed event.  I decided to have a clear conscience about this matter.  I hope whoever wins Saturday will defeat the false moderate centrist bipartisan Senator Mark Warner in November.  I also would like to support Gillespie if he wins the nomination.

But lets’ have fun.  What will happen?

While the delegates are generally unpledged, and can vote for any of the four candidates, I think enough promises have been made to Gillespie that he will win on the first ballot.  I would think something like this:

Gillespie – 65%

Hill – 30%

The other two will split about 5%.

I think otherwise the convention will be more an event for party faithful to meet and greet again and hear a lot of speeches but otherwise will not be very exciting.  I am glad I am not going.  If you want my opinion on who to vote for, I would vote for Shak Hill.  The blog has also endorsed Hill.  (If Gillespie is definitely implicated in getting a political opponent indicted to pay back for that person running against a political colleague of Gillespie’s, I will definitely vote for Sarvis again.  That is an abuse of the criminal law and is unAmerican and outrageous.  But I am not convinced of Gillespie’s actual involvement.  Tom is right:  It will be used to hurt Gillespie and maybe Senator Vogel, too in 2015.)
