Statement of Dave Brat on voting against the House omnibus bill

It is refreshing to have a Congressman that promises things when in the District and  actually does what he promised in Washington? Thanks Congressman Brat. – Tom

Washington, DC (December 11, 2014)

Today, Dave Brat voted “no” on both the rule to allow the omnibus spending bill (HR83) to come to a floor vote in the House and then voted “no” on the omnibus itself.  The rule passed this afternoon by a small margin – 214 to 212 – after a tie ended when a member was allowed to switch his vote.  A tie would have prevented the bill from going to the floor.  The omnibus passed late this evening 219 to 206.

Brat’s statement:

“I had two opportunities to try to prevent the omnibus bill from becoming law, and I exercised both of them.  Regardless of the many policy disagreements I had with the bill, this vote ultimately wasn’t about policy for me.  This bill funds an illegal act.  Above all, this vote was about following the law and the Constitution.

“Without the amendment that my House colleagues and I proposed yesterday, this omnibus bill allows funding for President Obama’s unconstitutional executive amnesty for approximately five million illegal immigrants.

“Despite having claimed several times that he didn’t have the authority to enact amnesty without Congress, President Obama acted anyway.  Under our Constitution, the president can’t create the law; the president has to follow the law.

“I cannot vote to allow an agency of this government to commit an act that the president and the House leadership on both sides have previously agreed is illegal.  Allowing the funding of executive amnesty, even just until the end of February, allows the program to be implemented and amnesty to be enacted.”

Obama said he did not have the authority to do executive amnesty (Sep. 28, 2011, Hispanic Roundtable):

“I just have to continue to say this notion that somehow I can just change the laws unilaterally is just not true. We are doing everything we can administratively. But the fact of the matter is there are laws on the books that I have to enforce. And I think there’s been a great disservice done to the cause of getting the DREAM Act passed and getting comprehensive immigration passed by perpetrating the notion that somehow, by myself, I can go and do these things. It’s just not true…. We live in a democracy. You have to pass bills through the legislature, and then I can sign it.”

Love the anti-Cantor DAVE BRAT! Praying God gives us more time to get more like him up there in DC before its too late and God steps aside and allows America to implode upon itself.

Obama is pushing every implosion button he can get his hands on. He HATES America!

Please pray that God will give us more time. And it might not hurt to buy a little more ammo for self defense just in case.
