The Arizona Illegal Immigration Delima

Enforcing immigration laws comes under the purview of the Federal Government. It is the Constitutional duty of the Government and the Obama Administration to uphold the constitution and secure America’s borders. But the fact is, only 4 states have a large problem with illegal immigration: California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. All four share a border with Mexico.

But Arizona is facing the brunt of the border assault from the South not only from illegals, but from drug dealers and other criminals. And on the US side of the border, illegals are exploited, raped and murdered. And when they are in this country illegally, it’s not like they can run to the local police when their wife or daughter are forced into prostitution, or forced to become drug mules to pay some imaginary debt. Or even if their loved ones are murdered.

There is also the problem of those that make it here successfully becoming a burden on the hospitals and services required to support them.

One big problem is a lack of Federal resources. But Arizona has shown a willingness to work with the Federal Government to enforce US Laws. Joint programs worked out under the Bush Administration are not being renewed by the Obama Administration, preferring to do nothing instead. That is simply not an option for the citizens of Arizona. The increase in crime is something none can tolerate.

From CNSNews in October 2009:

Calling himself “the poster boy” for those who support the enforcement of federal immigration laws, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he will continue to arrest individuals who are in the country illegally, even if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) does not renew the 287(g) agreement that the Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff’s Office has operated under for the past two years.

“We’ve been doing it for two years and have been very successful, but I guess they don’t like to enforce illegal immigration laws,” Arpaio told CNSNews.com. “[It] doesn’t make any difference. I’m still going to continue my programs, regardless of what the feds like or don’t like.”

Under that agreement, authorized in the 287(g) section of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, more than 100 officers and deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office were trained and certified by ICE to enforce federal immigration laws in 2007.

So, Arizona passed legislation this week to do what Obama refuses to do: enforce the law. After receiving criticism for state officials trying to enforce US Law (without authority), Arizona now has a law on the books to do the job.

Predictably, Obama and the leftists are crying foul as Arizona moves to protect her borders.

After passing Health Care Reform that turns the already overwhelmed Arizona medical facilities into magnets for ill persons from South of the Border, the choice is between enforcing immigration law or the financial collapse of Arizona Hospitals and Clinics.

This is not an issue of race or skin color. If the same situation existed with Canada, Northern States would no doubt do the same, or worse. Liberals that are unable to find a logical reason why the Federal Government should not enforce the law of the land turn to race as an argument.

But the many Latino’s that have come through the front door to become citizens see the illegal route as a bad thing too. They paid a lot of money, learned our laws and passed a test to be call Americans. Those climbing through holes in the fences and sneaking in at night dishonor the ones who immigrated the legal way.

The law Arizona passed this week does no more than continue a policy that was in effect and proven successful under Bush.

Hats off to Arizona for putting the law and protection of her citizens above Obama’s political agenda.
