The Official Blog Interview with the Libertarian candidate for the 10th State Senate District: Carl Loser

Carl Loser is one of the bravest persons I know. He is running for office. And he does not try to hide his last name or try to get people to pronounce it “Looser” or “Lusay”, no, it’s “Loser” and he embraces it.

Carl is the Libertarian candidate for the Tenth Senate District of Virginia. I spoke with him and his campaign manager, Corey M. Fauconier (full disclosure: Corey is a good friend and fellow brother in Christ and fellow Toastmaster, too!) at separate places.

Vital statistics: Carl is single (I warned him: Women might be after him while he runs for office – see my story here!) and no kids. He’s 24 or so.

He got involved in the LP because of Robert Sarvis running for governor in 2013. He first ran for Powhatan Clerk of the Court and finished six out of eight!

Carl wants to do three things if elected:

  1. End prohibition. For most Libertarians, that means drugs. Carl is no exception. (No he does not use the drugs!) He would start with marijuana and work to other drugs. But Carl is also concerned about prostitution and gambling. Making prostitution legal could cut the market out from under the terrible trafficking we see today. Gambling is virtually illegal in Virginia except for small states poker, charitable gaming and the state lottery. Carl would privatize the lottery (I agree there) and also legalize gambling, too. He wants most private contracts (other than obviously illegal like hit man contracts) fully enforced.

  2. Economic Opportunity: Loser wants to enhance economic development through lower taxes, less waste in government, vocational education (He would get rid of the compulsory education law), abolish the Certificate of Public Need required for many expansions of medical facilities, Carl would also abolish ABC and allow private sales of liquor instead.

  3. Equal Treatment under law: Loser is very concerned about how politicians exempt themselves from so many laws like Obamacare. There is also a scandalous system called Land Use that hobbles counties – 8% of the land in Powhatan is under Land Use. That causes 92% to subsidize the 8%. Local businesses pay more in taxes but get less benefits than huge crony capitalists. Carl is opposed to such things as public subsidies of baseball stadiums.

I think Carl is the real deal and is trying out new ideas, too. Still developing the things he wants to speak of, Fauconier is working on a hip-hop song or series of songs for the campaign and the ideals of the LP. I told Corey that has potential to be a major impact on LP campaigns throughout the nation. Here is a picture of LP National Chairman Nicholas Sarwark doing the “Loser for Liberty” sign – a left hand on the forehead – that is the trademark of the campaign.

Of course any independent candidate has a uphill battle. But Carl Loser hopes to make an impact and maybe even win, too!

I had to ask: How is your last name playing on the trail? Carl Loser’s name has helped him get all sorts of publicity – mostly free – not just in the district but around the country, too!

Here’s a presser from the campaign:

Video / Song Release for “Nice: Libertarian Theme is set for video / song release on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 between 7 pm and 11 pm at Blithe 1719 E. Main Street Richmond, Virginia. Carl R. Loser, who is the Libertarian running for the Senate seat in Virginia’s 10th district is getting a good rap. Loser’s Campaign Manager Corey Fauconier used his alter ego ‘Sage” an independent Hip Hop writer has recorded “Nice: The Libertarian Theme”. The song explains the current state of government is poor and goes into platform issues that the Libertarian Party deems important. From deregulation of health care, decriminalization of marijuana, reducing government waste in spending and the flat tax. “Nice: The Libertarian Theme is set for a July 8, 2015 release on I Tunes and Google Play.

Fauconier says, “I came to be introduced to the Libertarian Party when Robert Sarvis and James Carr came to participate in the Candidates Forum sponsored by the Richmond Crusade for Voters back in November 2014 at Virginia Union University. African Americans are still fighting freedom. Why not try another party. It is my personal opinion that neither the Democratic or Republican parties are working in our best interests. Major party politicians always raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign monies. This does not mean that they are the leadership that we need, it just means that they have access to a great deal of money. Hip Hop is a cultural method of expression. I just wanted to express my support for a party which wants change in our community. I hope that more African Americans seriously consider the Libertarian Party”
The instrumental for “Nice: Libertarian Theme” was produced and arranged by Fauconier’s long time producer friend Robert “RoBeaTs (yes he spells it that way) Wilkenson formerly of Glen Allen who now resides in Woodbridge, Virginia. The track was recorded by Jonathan “Skunk” Scott of MSB804LLC Studios in Manchester. On June 15, 2015 the video in support of “Nice: Libertarian Theme” was filmed on location in Richmond, Virginia by Reid Schiff of Virginia Beach. Schiff recently graduated from J Sargent Reynolds and is looking to continue his studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall.
Loser explains. “The two established parties feel threatened by third-party candidates who more directly represent the citizen’s interests.“Government is the result of where our community is today. It has problems and it is time to face them. I can only do so much to help while I am not in office. When I am elected, I will handle our problems more efficiently.”
