I want to urge all my readers with ties to Virginia Military Institute to let the school know their feelings – respectfully of course but forcefully. Why? Because there was a ICLEI-sponsored event at VMI – YES the Virginia Military Institute – at the Preston Library of VMI – on April 7, 2011:
Are you or your colleagues attending the Environment Virginia Symposium in Lexington, VA this year? If yes, we have great news for you! In conjunction with the Symposium, ICLEI is hosting the Virginia Climate Protection Network Meeting for local government staff and stakeholders, to share, learn, and help your community meet its sustainability goals. You do not need to register for the Symposium to come to this free meeting. Just register with us at ICLEI.
I am sure VMI acted in ignorance here. VMI is one of the finest and most patriotic schools in America. It’s my hope this type of thing will not occur again. The City of Lexington is a ICLEI member and I urge the local tea party and students from both VMI and Washington & Lee to let the local government know – ICLEI is unacceptable, unconstitutional and unwise. Sustainability is not in keeping with American principles. Lexington ought to get out. VMI ought not allow ICLEI on campus again.
