THIS is WHY we NEED the TEA PARTY! (And the Libertarians, too!) UPDATE: DINGELL the THIRD is RUNNING!

I saw that Cong. Dingell is retiring after 29 terms in Congress (That’s 58 + years for those who are counting!)  Eisenhower was the President; Sam Rayburn was the Speaker of the House!  Sam Rayburn!

I saw that Congressman Dingell said he did not want to be carried out and that it was time to go.

No offense, but Rep. Dingell had stayed too long about say 1972!  I do not think it was good for the system for this sort of thing.  But now we are reading that his wife might run for Dingell’s seat!

For the first time in 81 years, Michigan Democrats are contemplating a Congress without a Dingell.

Maybe not.

Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., announced his retirement on Monday, finishing his 29th full term in the House after succeeding his father in the southeastern Michigan district. In the wake of his announcement, Democrats are already touting the congressman’s wife, Debbie, as the most serious contender for his seat.

EIGHTY-ONE YEARS?  Forget sports imperialism – this is nearly a violation of the Constitution’s prohibition against titles of nobility!  Maybe Debbie Dingell could push it up to a century or so!

This kind of concentrated power is why we need a tea party.  It is also why brave libertarians and other minor parties offer opposition to lifetime politicians like Dingell when the other major party says no.

Here’s my proposal:  If Debbie Dingell is elected, let’s call her Dingell the Third, her husband is Dingell II and his father Dingell I!

I know there are good people in local, state or federal government who serve in the right way – Del. Bob Marshall is one example.  But too much power is a bad thing and based on my tiny experiences up at the Capitol (Yes faithful readers, I have been up at the hill a lot this session – helping others run for judge and promoting myself as well!) that it is easy to think you are supremely important.  When I came home or back to the office, I had to remind myself (or the Spirit convicting me!) what Rick Warren says in The Purpose-Driven Life:  It’s not about you!  We need term limits in government.

The Mechanicsville Tea Party needs your help today.  It is a force to open up Hanover politics (along with the Patrick Henry TP) and your voice is heard.  No more self-congratulatory meetings and events!  But I have kids and responsibilities!  We all do.  But your community needs you to help.  Join your local TP group wherever you are today.

UPDATE: Dingell the Third (Debbie Dingell) is running!  Where is the Tea Party when you need it!
