I am not Jewish; I know there are readers of this blog who are.  And I wanted to honor my Jewish readers on the end of the Sabbath and the High Holy Days.  It is right to do so in that since Abraham, all the major positive characters in the Bible – Old or New Testament – are Jewish:  Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David, Solomon, Daniel, Peter. Paul, John and especially Jesus.  We followers of Christ actually believe that Jesus is in fact the fulfillment of the promises and hopes of the Old Testament – the Messiah of the Old Covenant. (Go here for more details on the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy in Jesus and here for the established way to receive Jesus as Messiah or Savior and Lord.)

The Old Testament in fact says that the Jewish people will last forever:

“For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.”  Isaiah 66:22 (KJV)

And that the Gentiles (that’s me!) will honor Jewish people:

“Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they will bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.”  Isaiah 49:22 (KJV)

“And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowman and your vinedressers.”  Isaiah 61:5 (KJV)

It sounds like we will serve the children of Israel.  I’ll be glad and honored to do so and especially for a reader of this blog.  Trusting in Jesus as Messiah does not dilute the important differences between people groups; Isaiah 49 says there will be a distinctive group – the children of Israel – that will last forever.  Revelation 7 says that every nation, tongue and tribe will praise Jesus in heaven!

“After this I beheld, and , lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.”  Rev. 7: 9 (KVJ)

May all my readers, Jewish or Gentile, find the Peace of God in Jesus the Messiah before the next High Holy Days!  If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me at ssanders at
