Republican Congressman John Mica (Fl) was one of the original authors of the bill that created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the days after 9/11 back in 2001.
The TSA has grown into a huge bureaucracy and President Obama is about to allow the TSA to unionize.
According to Congressman Mica, the TSA was never envisioned as the massive, top heavy group it has become. And, Mica says, Airports have the option to hire private security instead of relying on the TSA and the government pays for security, either through the TSA or private security. So, there is no downside to tossing out “Big Sis” Janet Napolitano and her soon-to-be union thugs.
In an administration where unions are heavily rewarded for failure, the move to unionize an already incompetent and arrogant government agency, what little accountability the TSA has will be non-existent as union bosses protect the workers with full presidential immunity.
According to Byon York, writing in the Washington Examiner:
In a May 2010 letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Mica noted that the GAO “discovered that since the program’s inception, at least 17 known terrorists … have flown on 24 different occasions, passing through security at eight SPOT airports.” One of those known terrorists was Faisal Shahzad, who made it past SPOT monitors onto a Dubai-bound plane at New York’s JFK International Airport not long after trying to set off a car bomb in Times Square. Federal agents nabbed him just before departure.
