See updates below. I received a response and sent my reply.
I sent the following email to Canova Peterson. Let’s hope for a positive response.
Dear Canova Peterson
At the Candidate Forum at the Mechanicsville Library held on September 29, 2015 in lieu of the Herald Progress debate which you were unable to attend, a number of Mechanicsville voters expressed disappointment that you were not able to attend. In fact, several issues arose where your name was mentioned. The voters had questions on numerous topics from Proffers to School issues.
The voters were left to guess your positions.
I was happy to see that you are holding a solo Candidate Forum and believe we have an opportunity for you to make amends for your scheduling conflict at the earlier event.
I have spoken with Mr. Millican and he is available on the 13th and willing to answer voter questions with you so that the Mechanicsville District can be as informed as possible.
As you have no scheduling conflict on the evening of October 13th, there should be no reason you will not agree to a dual forum with Mr. Millican.
I am awaiting your response.
Tom White
Mechanicsville District Resident
Update: I received the following rather arrogant reply from Supervisor Peterson:
Dear Tom,
Thank you for your e-mail and your interest in our County.
Please note that I have no desire or reason to make amends for a scheduling conflict.
As far as my meeting on the 13th is concerned, it is open to the public and I have invited all citizens of our county to attend. Mr. Millican qualifies and is welcome to participate like everyone else.
I am assuming I will see you on the 13th,
Canova
And my response:
Canova
As an elected representative your desire is irrelevant. It is the people you represent who matter. And they want you to face your opponent.
Sad that you don’t get that.
Cantor also refused to debate and thought himself above the voters and the taxpayers.
I was hoping we could hold this seat but you obviously do not care. You have lost a lot of votes with your arrogance.
Tom White
And the answer is yes. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Canova will never agree to a debate, he’s way “too busy creating jobs”.

Bravo to Tom White !The “hero worshipping” is not only disgusting but very counter productive. Canova Peterson works for the citizens, not the other way around.
Examples are too numerous to mention but citizens must stop this senseless practice of placing these people on a pedestal and demand they do what we elected them to do, and hold them accountable when they don’t.
The traditional way that voters throw their arms into the air declaring ” he/she is the best we can do” is a defeatist mindset that must end.
You go after them, and you go after them hard. All of the bluster is meaningless, an empty threat until they know political hellfire is coming their way.

Amen Bob Shannon. Truth be told Canova is afraid to try and defend his record on the BOS !

I would have hoped that Canova would debate Mr. Millican. If Canova voted on an issue, he must believe that what he was voting for was in the best interests of his constituents. That being said he would have nothing to fear. Not debating Mr. Millican can only make one think, Canova did not truly believe in his votes. If you read this Canova, agree to debate Mr. Millican.
Attaboy Tom! Truth to power indeed…
Kudos to Mr. White.
Out w/ the old (Canova Peterson) & in w/ the new ( Glenn Millican).

Would anyone besides me like to know what is buried under the “school boards”?
Maybe Glenn would like to give some accounts on that issue?
