Democrats Push Tax on Clean Technology to Subsidize Polluting Carbon Technology

Is it hypocrisy or lunacy?

Democrats, those self proclaimed “protectors of the environment” who want to scrap anything carbon with no regard to what it costs have decided now that old technology with a carbon footprint larger than the Gulf oil spill must be saved in favor of new technology with almost no carbon footprint. So important is this old technology to the Democrats that they want to levy a brutal and regressive tax on the new, clean technology to subsidize the older carbon based technology.

No, not petroleum. We are talking Newspapers. When you consider the energy it takes to make paper, the pollution created such as dioxin in the bleaching process, and the fuel burned to distribute the centuries old technology, it is enough to make Al Gore turn off a light in one of his mansions. Ok. Maybe not.

the Liberals want to tax online news sources like the Drudge Report and give the proceeds to rags like the Washington Post in the mistaken belief that the inevitable demise of print media can be stopped.

According to the Washington Times (online, of course!):

In other words, government policy would encourage a tax on websites like the Drudge Report, a must-read source for the news links of the day, so that the agency can redistribute the funds collected to various newspapers. Such a tax would hit other news aggregators, such as Digg, Fark and Reddit, which not only gather links, but provide a forum for a lively and entertaining discussion of the issues raised by the stories. Fostering a robust public-policy debate, not saving a particular business model, should be the goal of journalism in the first place.

The report also discusses the possibility of offering tax exemptions to news organizations, establishing an AmeriCorps for reporters and creating a national fund for local news organizations.

Is there any doubt that this is intended to punish and hamper conservative online publications?
